The war was over. The last of the marines loaded into suspension pods aboard the final convoy vessel and sent on their way. Taking Colonel Duzman with them as their prize, the leader of the resistance captured in the closing moments of the brutal conflict.
The vessel never arrived at its destination. After six months, military command wrote it off as a total loss. They did not expect to see it again. Space was vast, and they simply did not have the resources to mount a rescue mission.
Centuries pass before a faint echo is detected in the surveillance systems of the frigate, the CSS Fire Stalker. An inert object, tumbling end over end in its slow voyage through the cosmos.
