Publisher's summary

This mostly dark, disturbing, and bite-sized collection of 10 short stories is as much inspired by true crime events as it is a love letter to midnight monster movies. It is, at times, post-apocalyptic and violent, with glimpses of gore and seemingly hopeless moments of stillness, but it is often uncomfortable.

Table of contents:

  • "Conflicting Desires"
  • "Debris"
  • "Gone Astray"
  • "Monday You Can Fall Apart"
  • "Pretty Little Thing"
  • "Reptillian Kiss"
  • "Soil of the Soul"
  • "Songs About Girls"
  • "Two If by Screee!"
  • "Velvet Darkness"

If you’re a fan of Brian Keene or J.A. Konrath, you’ll love these disturbing little pieces.

Content warning: contains graphic sexual violence.

Soil of the soul!

That was my favorite out of these shirt stories. I normally tend to stay away from the short story novels but this one was fantastic! Well written,m and narrated! 5/5 would recommend!!!!

10 Short Pieces of a puzzle you want to hear!

Review of Audiobook- Pieces: 10 Bite-Sized Horror Short Stories by Steve Wands, Performed by Sera Sharr

Steve Wands continues to show his writing prowess in this anthology of 10 short horror stories. Pieces is a perfect name for this collection, as each story represented new pieces to include in the puzzle of all things that are considered Horror.

Each “Piece” was a true glimpse into the disturbing darkness where real-life horror and fantasies intertwine to make a person uncomfortable in the most squeamish of ways.

This book was performed by narrator Sera Sharr, who delivered each story perfectly. Her characterizations were really good and she held my attention throughout each story, which is sometimes difficult to accomplish with many short story collections.

Overall, all the pieces came together to make a collection of great tales that should be heard.

What a wicked imagination some of us have

I read this whole book and from the beginning to the last story I experience many emotions the first one was so awesome and I mean soldier dropping Lee awesome I wanted to find this author and tell him he deserves an award. The second story was so sweet I could go on and on and tell you have summer very demented so very demented and some make you smile but most of the cringe factor that like God Who thinks of this stuff. There’s even a sweet story about the day in the life of a family… Of course this is after zombies become normal. Do you know when monster trucks pick your kids up for school with an assistant and her gun making sure on the zombies come out and there’s even a zombie cleanup service. This whole book is awesome I loved it I said it was awesome right well it is I highly recommend it. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how great I think there’s narrator was, Are usually do not like women reading horror but this one did a fabulous job I thought she said the right tone I had the right edge to her voice and she was perfect kudos to you ma’am. I gave it five stars across-the-board and they deserve all of them if not more.

Pieces of Horror

This is a decent collection of horror short stories. As with any collection of stories, some were better than others. A few were cringe-worthy because of their graphic sexual aspects (warning to those who would be bothered) and others were just downright creepy!

A couple of the stories were especially memorable: Reptilian Kiss and Soil of the Soul. Both of these tales focused on what horrific things a person might do to protect those we love. A few of the stories were open-ended enough that the reader has to reach their own conclusion (which I always enjoy in a horror short story).

The narrator did a great job and her performance added a lot to this collection. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/publisher/narrator and chose to review it.
