About this listen

On July 22, 2009, a special meeting was held with 24 leading scientists at the National Institutes of Health to discuss early findings that a newly discovered retrovirus was linked to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), prostate cancer, lymphoma, and eventually neurodevelopmental disorders in children. When Dr. Judy Mikovits finished her presentation the room was silent for a moment, then one of the scientists said, "Oh my God!" The resulting investigation would be like no other in science. For Dr. Mikovits, a 20-year veteran of the National Cancer Institute, this was the midpoint of a five-year journey that would start with the founding of the Whittemore-Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease at the University of Nevada, Reno, and end with her as a witness for the federal government against her former employer, Harvey Whittemore, for illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. On this journey, Dr. Mikovits would face the scientific prejudices against CFS, wander into the minefield that is autism, and through it all struggle to maintain her faith in God and the profession to which she had dedicated her life. This is a story for anybody interested in the peril and promise of science at the very highest levels in our country.

Extraordinary and harrowing sojourn of a dedicated scientist undermined by a corrupted system.

“Plague” chronicles the shocking discovery of a third retrovirus discovered by Dr. Mikovits. A steadfast and rigorous cancer and AIDS researcher who realizes how and why a third retrovirus was generated in a laboratory setting and spread through the air to millions of people. More importantly, her dramatic struggle reveals that the swift development of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, autism, and cancer may have been immune stimulated diseases by vaccines carrying similar virus sequences. Falsely imprisoned without a warrant, her research confiscated, and her reputation stained, Mikovits survives the ordeal but we in the body politic lost years of her honorable research and all are no closer to being protected from thus reckless man-made catastrophe.

A sobering tale of medical heroism undermined by arrogant and cowardly individuals with great wealth and power facilitated by a corrupt judicial system. A must read for anyone suffering from cancer, autoimmune disorders and / or or parents with vaccine injured children.

Addressing the difficulties in political corruption of science

This is a great book for those seeking the truth about disease. It is reassuring to see there are scientists and doctors in this world, who still value ethics, morals and healing people over money, power and fame. Even without a science background, I found this book well written and easy to understand. I understood enough to see the blatant corruption that has turned science into a political circus.

Awesome but not for narration

this book is chalked full of extremely useful and good information. with that being said it really isn't a good format for an audio book. the narrator did a good job considering the subject matter and highly technical jargon

Expose of the world of immunologists

The back story of how Judy Mikovits’s career was ruined by a desperate landowning lawyer, a judge who could be bought, as well as rival scientists, is a thriller that ought to be made into a movie. She was driven by compassion, as well as scientific zeal, for patients whose illnesses don’t arouse public or medical sympathy (chronic fatigue syndrome, autism).
Along the way, Dr. Judy has been questioning why new, more virulent microbes, have accidentally, or intentionally, been produced in labs around the world.
It would be great if Dr. Mikovits would address her story to the average reader as well as to scientists, so that she could generate more popular understanding and support.

Where have all the flowers gone?

Well written and researched by the authors. Great job by the narrator.
Soon, Dr Judy Mikovits will finish her research and find cures for people with ME/CFS. Her stolen research notes will be returned. She will receive higher rewards than the Nobel.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Those people that have stopped her work will receive their just rewards as well.
It seems that science now has a reputation for killing its prophets. The scientific method touted by science has lost its luster. Statistics 101 taught me, you can skew any subject by omitting part of the scale.
There is a judge that has taken up Dr Mikovits’ case and his rulings cannot be appealed.

Excellent - The truth

I am not a scientist but was able to get the idea. What is science trying to cover up? I think Dr.. Mikovits should be given a lab with tons of money and we will know.

Well supported with great info with a side of intrigue

I loved the story and the scientific data. Although I liked all of the science speak, I suspect it may be too much for some. The story jumps around; the timeline is not in chronological order, so just pay attention at the beginning of the chapter when they set the time. Judy Mikovits is a hero in my opinion. She gave what most of us are not willing to give.

Interesting...

The book implies some very heavy ideas. Potential truths* that could have very likely been real. However as with all things, the consumer must decide if it is a truth to them.

By researching themselves, and perhaps what you do not find may surprise you, and lead you to more truths than you expect.

Always remember, history will always be written by the Victor.

Exceptionally written and documented.

This is a phenomenal book. There are times when you may struggle to listen through the scientific terminology but it's well worth the effort to Google some of the terms. What has been hidden from us is frightening. If you enjoyed this book you will also enjoy The Great Influenza by John M Barry.

Loved it

Strongly recommend this book. Sad to hear our corrupt medical and scientific community won’t address this sickness.
