About this listen

The autobiography of the highest scoring batsman of all time.

The greatest run-scorer in the history of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar retired in 2013 after an astonishing 24 years at the top. The most celebrated Indian cricketer of all time, he received the Bharat Ratna Award - India's highest civilian honour - on the day of his retirement.

Now Sachin Tendulkar tells his own remarkable story - from his first Test cap at the age of 16 to his 100th international century and the emotional final farewell that brought his country to a standstill.

When a boisterous Mumbai youngster's excess energies were channelled into cricket, the result was record-breaking schoolboy batting exploits that launched the career of a cricketing phenomenon. Before long Sachin Tendulkar was the cornerstone of India's batting line-up, his every move watched by a cricket-mad nation's devoted followers.Never has a cricketer been burdened with so many expectations; never has a cricketer performed at such a high level for so long and with such style - scoring more runs and making more centuries than any other player, in both Tests and one-day games. And perhaps only one cricketer could have brought together a shocked nation by defiantly scoring a Test century shortly after terrorist attacks rocked Mumbai.

His many achievements with India include winning the World Cup and topping the world Test rankings. Yet he has also known his fair share of frustration and failure - from injuries and early World Cup exits to stinging criticism from the press, especially during his unhappy tenure as captain.Despite his celebrity status, Sachin Tendulkar has always remained a very private man, devoted to his family and his country. Now, for the first time, he provides a fascinating insight into his personal life and gives a frank and revealing account of a sporting life like no other.

Horrible Narration, scorecard instead of a book

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narration is horrible. The guy cant pronounce any Indian name or Indian city or even names of players outside India. For reading Sachin's biography one would assume that pronouncing Indian names would be important. He calls Sanjay Bangar and Banger.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Playing It My Way?

That Sachin didnt say anything about match fixing, really how can you just skip it?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narration is so annoying that instead of following the book one starts to notice the bad narration and bad pronunciation.

Was Playing It My Way worth the listening time?

I am a huge fan of SRT so I want to know more about his journey and hence I paid for it but when compared with biographies of other cricketers, this is very unimpressive.

His life as "the God"!

An honest and child like account of his life as the "Cricketer Tendulkar"!
A great player, a supportive teammate, a genuine philanthropist, a loving husband and father, an emotional man and an incredible human being.

He is an inspiration to a NATION and a GENERATION!

The narrator is not a good choice. But well written auto biography. Hats off to Sachin!

Only for the biggest Sachin fan

This is a book written by someone that does not read. It’s very poorly constructed. It’s almost a perfectly linear accounting of his cricket scores. Not much, if any, of the back stage, of what made him do what he did, of what he felt. But I guess that’s the kind of man he was, very singularly focused. So that probably makes sense.
But then there’s the goddamn narrator! Holy mother f#$k!!!!! God Damn he ruined the book. The worst narrator I’ve ever heard. Clearly someone that has no clue about cricket, like NOTHING. He over annunciated every cricket terminology, reference, name, because he was saying them for the first time. But the last straw, something that made me pull over and scream at car speakers, was when we narrated how the crowd cheered for Sachin. Dude it goes- Sachiiiiin, Sachin! Not- Sachin, Sachin.

Pathetic pronunciation

I am not sure why did the producers get to have Sartaj Garewal to do the voice overs. Brilliant story but the pronunciation of hindi words was absolutely a huge turn off. I wish there could have been considerate enough to have gotten someone to do the voiceover who understood the words and their relevance. Good book but third class voiceover.
