Sr. Carole Riley Ph.D.
About this listen
Denial, anger, depression, and anxiety block the path to freedom. Hostile environments at home and work feed our sense of being out of control and under attack. To deal with these realities, Sr. Riley introduces the listener to a series of meditation techniques that address our unhealthy defense mechanisms, face our fears, and begin to understand the peace and strengths that come from utilizing the insights of mystics as well as psychologists. She shows the dynamics that are at work behind procrastinating, diverting, generalizing, being late, losing focus, lying, forgetting, misplacing, etc. She explains that the more we understand our past the easier it is to change our behavior in the present. Using insights from Teresa’s Interior Castle, the Cloud of Unknowing, and De Caussade S.J., she shows how the interior life is steeped in vocal prayer, meditation, acquired recollection, the prayer of quiet, simple union, and finally the transformed Union. She offers a way of being honest with our own emotions and then being able to calmly face the intense feelings of others without running away or striking back.

Initially, when purchased I thought this was a book, I was not expecting a talk. It starts and ends much like a mass, with prayer and music. The main focus is on 15 defense mechanisms we use to block or avoid emotions. Recognize feelings, reflection then leads to growth. 4 guided meditations. Very well organized & she draws from several masters.
I hope pdfs are added as there are multiple references to handouts....(tho I found the self healing reiki on youtube, and it was a surprise to hear a reference, however small, to reiki at all.)
