About this listen
Nerd. Introvert. He was the hero they never knew they wanted.
All Wendell hoped for was a decent job, a hot new car, and a girlfriend to match.
What he got was the mantle of a legendary hero, the heart of a girl who had no idea who he really was...and a diamond bigger than his fist.
What could possibly go wrong?

The beginning of something epic.
You can feel Jamie's passion. How is one person so incredibly talented in writing AND narrating? Do not miss this book. It is a fantastic read for a young adult and even older adults will find themselves longing for the series to continue.
Dax is an instant favorite. You're going to love this... Elf?
ALSO the underlying messages in this book are gold. Jamie will have your inner self wanting to become a better person if you pay attention.

Awesome book!
This book was absolutely fantastic. I'm usually not a fan of modern fantasy, but this book was well put together and the magic system is amazing.
The beginning of the book didn't have me captured, but by the end of the book I couldn't wait to start book 2.
The performance from the author is something very special too I feel. There are some intense scenes where he performs like no other audible reader reading his book could. During a specific tragic scene where one of the characters is heart broken, you can feel the sadness and depth by the way Jaime performs the scene. You can hear the crack in his voice as the character starts to cry and you can feel all of the emotions. I can hardly wait for the other books to come to Audible!

A Fun and Engaging Read
What a great book
The story line is captivating and compelling. a few years ago I purchased the ebook and read it. Hearing it is just as good.
I'm a therapist, and can tell you that stories like this offer our youth what is needed, both for their lives personally, as well as for society as a whole.
Worth much more than you'll pay for it!
I'm looking forward to other audio books from the same author.

Can't stop listening to this after reading series
a friend dared me to read this originally and after I did I loved it so much I had to get the audio so I could listen to it on the go.
so glad I did! Wendell who you would think to be typical nerd in high school, really turns out to be anything but that and that goes double for all of the other characters that have been written into the story, from Dax, members of the council, the high elder and least of all Chuck..(yes I loved Wendell but Chuck is a real character if I ever saw one) now that I've read almost halfway through the series I can tell you this is an epic fantasy comedy that kept me hanging on to every word.. this is a great audiobook at 6 hours long I could listen to it while going on a long trip, well worth the price for all the laughter and tears 😭.
the more you listen the more you would love the antagonistic nature of Wendell and you can only imagine what is to come in the next audiobook from this guy.
My only disappointment is it looks like this author has only done his first book in audio and it's a shame if he doesn't do the rest. Especially love audio because the author narrated it himself, what a voice and a character in his own right!

Devout fiction-hater changes mind
I was asked to read this book years ago because a friend thought I should write some songs connected to the storyline. I dragged my feet, as I have a fierce commitment to ONLY read fact and NEVER waste my time on fiction.
Out of duty, I cracked the cover......and I've now read it 6 times over!
I was instantly hooked by the easy readability, thought-provoking story-line, and relatable characters. What keeps me coming back? The plot twists that manage to keep surprising me, and the oh-so-creative descriptions of magical things so unlike our world.
The audio book is just cream on top - what a treat to hear the author himself tell the story. You know it's going to sound exactly as originally intended, and there's an element of passion you won't hear with your run-of-the-mill narrator. 15 stars, please and thank you!
