About this listen

"Pride & Prejudice: Healing Division in the Modern Family" is a heartfelt exploration into the intricate balance between celebrating one's identity ("pride") and confronting ingrained biases ("prejudice"). Dr. Matt R. Salmon shares his experience growing up queer in a family and religion that condemned it.

Drawing upon professional expertise and unique life experiences, this book offers a fresh perspective on the challenges and opportunities that arise in families with LGBTQ+ members. The author channels these experiences into a powerful narrative, aiming to inspire change and prevent further harms inflicted by societal biases. It is a compelling listen for parents, religious leaders, and individuals working to embrace their identity, as well as for those seeking to deepen their understanding of the complexities of acceptance and diversity.

Through a mix of personal narratives, psychological insights, and practical strategies, "Pride & Prejudice" guides listeners through understanding prejudice, breaking it down, and paving a way toward healing division with empathy, open conversation, and unconditional love. It's more than an analysis of the modern family; it's a roadmap to fostering inclusive environments that celebrate the colorful spectrum of humanity.

Everyone needs to read this book.

Matt's authenticity and conviction are palpable. The research included is relevant and comprehensive, but it is his lived experience that is most convincing. Matt has walked the walk of the challenge his is issuing to all of us. He has stood in the very difficult place of balancing boundary-setting for self-protection and loving with integrity. If only we all carried this strength.

New perspective

The point of religion giving you the tools to face the hardships that religion can bring was an interesting one for me. Overall this was an uplifting listen and I wish more people could listen to and take to heart.

Love

Dear Matt
My son Andrew only lived 27 years as a gay man, and he knew unconditional love from his family. Your words have enraged me for what you have encountered in your life. My parents did not accept my beautiful boy which hurt his soul deeply. We are Catholics and I sent him to Catholic schools as we truly did not know until he was 18. He told me he never felt his teachers judge him but I wonder. He lost his life by jumping in the ocean to save a young man he didn’t know. He went directly to the feet of Jesus I believe. He is my hero and his pure love still lives on. Thank you for this treasure of a book and I will do what I can to change the closed minds of those I know and love. Eileene Dillman
