About this listen

One of BuzzFeed's best YA books of 2021!

Perfect for fans of the Lady Janies and Stalking Jack the Ripper, the first book in the Jane Austen Murder Mysteries trilogy is a clever retelling of Pride and Prejudice that reimagines the iconic settings, characters, and romances in a thrilling and high-stakes whodunit.

When a scandalous murder shocks London high society, 17-year-old aspiring lawyer Lizzie Bennet seizes the opportunity to prove herself, despite the interference of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the stern young heir to the prestigious firm Pemberley Associates.

Convinced the authorities have imprisoned the wrong person, Lizzie vows to solve the murder on her own. But as the case - and her feelings for Darcy - become more complicated, Lizzie discovers that her dream job could make her happy, but it might also get her killed.

Three of Jane Austen’s classic novels receive a murder mystery makeover in this romantic and thrilling three-book series that’s perfect for fans of The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy.

Pride and Premeditation is followed by Sense and Second-Degree Murder, in which aspiring scientist Elinor Dashwood and her sister Marianne, a budding detective, work together to solve the mystery of their father’s murder.

HOORAY for a strong minded female!

love the story for that time period where women's role were housewives, nannies, governess, following society gossip. However Lizzie was determined to do something with her life other than marrying the first available man that her Mother was determined to set her up with. Quite enjoyable! A good read!

Loved it!

Combines my favorite Austen novel with a cozy mystery. These characters felt both familiar and new. Excellent pacing, plot development, and twists and turns.

A fun twist on a classic

It’s fun for those who like reimagining of the classic. It contains much of what I loved from the original with some modern twists and additions which make it an easy and happy read.

Superb

So much fun! This well crafted cozy mystery, including everyone’s favorite characters from Pride and Prejudice, is a joy to listen to! The mystery is wonderful, the setting ideal and the solution so satisfying. I so hope that the author writes many more. There is one other book in the series that I am aware of. Will be reading that soon. One of my favorite reads of 2022.

Just amazing

The plot was so good and for once in my life I couldn’t quite figure out who the murder was until the very end. I read this book for a book club but not I’m completely in love with this book and will be reading more immediately!!!

Meh It's Not Bad

The writing was decent, the performance excellent.

I appreciated the author acknowledging the inaccuracies in the author's note (besides historical ones, Lizzie was too young and Lydia too old).

I would probably have really liked this if the author had written original characters instead of hijacking and bastardizing a classic. It felt gimmicky and plot-puppety and she tried too hard to fit in lines from 'Pride and Prejudice' in a new context.

It wasn't terrible taken as separate story (imagining these were original characters). But as a 'reimagining', it fell short. One thing I will say in this book's favor is that as much as I love the story of 'Pride and Prejudice', Jane Austen is a terrible writer. 'Pride and Premeditation' is an okay story (rendered only okay due to previously stated shortcomings), but it is mostly written well so she does have a leg up on Austen there.
