About this listen

His face is recognized the world over; his story is well known. But what is Prince William truly like? As Diana's eldest son, he was her confidant. While the tabloids eagerly lapped up the lurid details of his parents' divorce, William lived painfully though it, suffering the embarrassment, the humiliation, and divided loyalties. He watched his father denounced on prime-time television; he met the lovers. And when he was just 15, his beautiful, loving mother was suddenly, shockingly snatched from his life forever. The nation lost its princess and its grief threatened the very future of the monarchy. What was almost forgotten in the clamor was that two small boys had lost their mother.

His childhood was a recipe for disaster, yet as he approaches his 30th birthday, William is as well-balanced and sane a man as you could ever hope to meet. He has an utter determination to do the right thing and to serve his country as his grandmother has so successfully done for the last 60 years. Who stopped him from going off the rails, turning his back on his duty, and wanting nothing to do with the press - the people he blamed for his mother's death? Where did the qualities that have so entranced the world, and his new bride, Catherine, come from?

In the last 30 years, Penny Junor has written extensively about his parents and the extended family into which he was born. With the advantage of her relationships within William's circle, she has been able to get closer to the answers than ever before.

A great indictment of Diana

Didn't get through it ... the first several hours were clearly an indictment of Diana more than anything. just felt very biased.

Fabulous

Loved the book 'Prince William ' by Penny Juror
And I'm an American. William and Kate will be perfect as King and Queen 👑. Great information on the rearing of a future Monarch. He is a man of great character.

Love The Royals bu Performance Lacking

I love the story, but another author does a much better job writing. The female who read this book is perfectly fine. The male voice is so irritating I had to stop listening: I always wanted to clear his throat for him. Please pick another male to record your books in the future.

Very Diana Worshiping

Maybe bc the book is 8 years old it seems false. The writer is very Dina centric when that is simplistic and unknowing. If you follow the monarchy as a institution not just from tabloids you know this book is a bit off.

Most of the book is about the Family as a whole

While most of the book is about Charles, Diana and their family together and apart it still sheds new light and aspects on William and Harry’s lives and personalities. It was very interesting!

Panders a bit ...

I enjoyed the book overall, but it was clearly written to be a puff piece for William. Especially fun to hear what the author had to say about Harry and how he would contribute mightily to the firm and what a perfect complimentary personality he will be as the 2 brothers re-shspe the monarchy !! Awk...waaaaard.....

Also, a bit perjorative toward Diana, but not really anyone else ! a
At certain points they use an actor to voice a quote in situ. That was a poor choice. It messed up the flow and at times the vilumes were different!

Excellent Story Expertly Told

What made the experience of listening to Prince William the most enjoyable?
The fact that it was unbiased and told the true story instead of reporting what so many other biographers have written to please the public. It revealed that royals are human beings even if they are born bluebloods. Prince William has been fortunate enough to inherit the best qualities of both parents. He has his father's sense of duty coupled with his dead mother's enormous charisma. And he looks like a film star, an advantage his beleagered father never had.

This is an insider's glimpse into the lives of two future kings of England. Penny Junor, who went to boarding school with Princess Anne, knows Prince Charles and Prince William personally. Muckrakers like Kitty Kelley and Christopher Anderson have never met members of the Royal Family and do not know them, therefore they feel entitled to print unsubstantiated gossip that maligns innocent people they feel free to judge very harshly without getting their facts straight.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Both Prince William and Prince Charles, who was especially courageous after his former wife's death in 1997 when he was the target of so much intolerance and hatred.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
It makes the storytelling much more vivid.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The true story of the King of Hearts.

Any additional comments?
Diana may have been the humanitarian Queen of Hearts but her true legacy has been as a young, modern mother who changed the Royal Family and the direction of the Monarchy forever.

Really biased.

I've seen Penny Junor on a number of documentaries, so I thought her work would be more factual instead of loaded with opinions. While I'm ok with her support of Charles (I think he's gotten a bad rap in many ways over the years), I certainly don't think Diana deserved the beat down she receives in this book. No, she wasn't a saint, but I really don't believe she was as awful as she was portrayed in this book. Glad I didn't pay money for this.
