Publisher's summary

"Mr. Edward is staking his claim to belong to a very special subcategory of magicians and mediums: those who both perform their crafts and debunk them. From Harry Houdini to James (the Amazing) Randi and the duo of Penn and Teller, there is a long tradition of magicians who believe that it is their duty to inculcate skepticism in the audience." (Mark Oppenheimer, New York Times)

Mark Edward is a professional mentalist who specializes in magic of the mind. He has spent more than 25 years in world-class venues from high-end night clubs and theaters to hundreds of private party and corporate events. As one of only five specially chosen and trained mediums in the history of Hollywood's famed Magic Castle, he has performed 15 years of seances that helped him perfect the role of spirit medium and psychic entertainer. During this time, he wrote several books on these subjects and appeared on television as both a primary consultant and on-air performer.

Fascinating information

Just read this the second time. Mark really shows the business from the inside. This time I also watched the movie Mark recommended, Nightmare Alley. The two together have great nuances to each other.

Good story, interesting enough.

Good story, interesting to listen to. However, the “Ringing phone” is incredibly annoying. I wish they did not put that sound bite in.

Good but not entirely what I had hoped for.

Not exactly what I was expecting after hearing my speak on a podcast. Still good.

Great story, read by the author

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a great behind the scenes look, and I learned quite a bit about how we deceive ourselves. The "psychic" throws out a few lines, WE fill in the blanks, and the psychic/medium is credited with supernatural powers. Mark Edward has been, and continues to be, very outspoken regarding the psychic industry/business. He has given many seminars and interviews - just search youtube for him. He is also incredibly honest about the inner turmoil that posing as a psychic caused him, from depression to alcoholism. And, for this audiobook, I like that it is read by the author, which gives it an authenticity that would be missing if read by someone else. And, it's funny!
