Mixed Feelings

In general I enjoyed this book. It's a big change a direction & much darker than the 1st two books. All the questions posed previously were answered, but so much death & betrayal made it harder to enjoy. One death in particular nearly ruined it for me. If you read the first 2 you should read it. Question: why couldn't I get this on kindle?

A bit uneven, but well worth a listen

Well plotted fairly written. Enjoyable. The narrator was fantastic with only a few emphasis hiccups. Somewhere in the last third of the story, it appeared to be rushed. Seem to get a little bit more juvenile, and the character were acting… Out of character. Moments of levity were inappropriately spaced in light of the enormity of the lossthe main character should’ve been feeling.

Good, but...

this series has been pretty good. from the first book it had lots of potential. second book kept things going well. the beginning of this book really good and interesting. midway point on, this book went in a totally unexpected direction. that's not a bad thing unless you remove any possibility of a satisfying conclusion of any love interest arcs for your main character by the end of the book. mind you, it's setup for another book, but I honestly at this point worry for what this future book will bring to us in it's pristine pages.

This Series Is Going to Ensnare You.
This was an easy and enjoyable read. Linnet shows us a different way of viewing and working with #vampires, #werewolves and #elves. She is an unbelievably, strong woman, trying to make make it in the top heavy male/vampire driven career and world she has chosen. Then to have the rug pulled out from under her by coworkers, friends, and family. She really finds out the strength hidden within! #mysteries

Bornikova and Plummer: Good Combo

Note: Spoiler Alert; and, this is a review of the series; not just “Publish and Perish”, which ends with an opening for a what-happens-next book 4 – not very satisfying since there appears to be no follow-up 4. The series is light (mostly), engaging, interesting; both fun and funny, at times. Bornikova’s take on vampires and werewolves is quite different, as compared with others I’ve read in the urban fantasy genre. While history and explanation of same are sufficient, there is much room for more in depth exploration – a ‘prequel’, perhaps? Same goes for her Fey: so much material for more exploration, further storylines. Bornikova’s character development is sufficient to be engaging – I cared about the characters; was curious about what they would do, what would happen to them. But again, there is so much room for more; and I wanted more! More of each character’s history, back-story. Sadly, Bornikova pulls a ‘George RR Martin’: killing off a loved main character. I kept thinking, “Naw. He can’t REALLY be DEAD! Shot, yes; but she didn’t SEE him actually DIE.” Even after the “… parents picked up his body …” disclosure, I held onto hope. Sigh. Acceptance (mostly) came with reference to his funeral. Main character Linnet seems a bit emotionally immature and naïve for an extremely intelligent, Top-of-Her-Class-Harvard-Law-Review attorney; ATTORNEY. Immaturity and naiveté may be common among other extremely bright, young, academic, post-grads. Law school is much more cut-throat; immature and naïve law students wise up or drop out. So … it’s not that Bornikova left loose ends or cliff hangers. It’s that I want to know more: more history, more characters’ back-stories; and definitely, what-happens-next. Therese Plummer is a good narrator and a great choice for this series. She’s very “nasal” at times, making her sound a bit harsh – even to these old American ears. Otherwise, Plummer never disappoints.

🤨 What the hell was this? 🤔

This story is all over the place! Very incoherent and a bit perplexing.

1. Characters with major impact appear out of nowhere

2. Plots pop-up that have no background in the story

3. Random storylines are forced together

4. Unnecessary deaths that hurt the story more than help.

5. This PREDATOR story falls out the sky. Seriously, this is some stuff you accidentally write into a story after a few jello shots.

The whole idea around the PREDATOR just came across to me as dumb. Not even regular dumb, but Dumb and Dumbier type Dumb. It was just like surprise, now there are aliens among us too!

If you liked the series before, then just be warned that this one is NOTHING like the others.

I feel bad for the narrators when I score a book so low. It's not the voice over but the words they have to read 😔.

Now if you're still reading, let me tell you about some of the other crazy-ness in the book.

* What kind of lawyer signs a contract without being able to read it? A terrible one.


* A the hospital, a nurse says she cant tell anything about the patient... but then the nurse commences to tell who paid for the patient's care and describes them down to their accents... what kind of unethical foolery is this?

* Why is she pressuring a man with no feelings to visit his parents who will be distraught that he no longer loves them??? SMDH.

* How is it that someone who researches a topic for 3 years doesn't know that "hunters" stink... especially when Linnet knew this just from reading a regular book... this is the worst damn researcher ever.

* Why is Linnet telling people her super power? Her super power is to destroy them... then she has the nerve to wonder why they are trying to kill her.

* And lastly, if one more person tells this chick how "Unique" or "strange" she is to them... I'm going to scream! She really isn't 🤣 She is saying and doing regular everyday things everytime its mentioned.

I disliked this book immensely. I will read the next but it wont be at the top of my list.

1 STAR - 🌟 Not Interesting or Bad story telling. Usually a book I had to force myself to finish.
