Publisher's summary

An Austenprose "Readers' Choice" for Top 5 Books of 2012.

In this thrilling and sensual adaptation of the classic love story Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet and the citizens of Hertfordshire know Fitzwilliam Darcy to be a proud, unpleasant sort of man, but they never suspect the dark secret of his true nature. He is not a man at all - but a vampire.

When the haughty and wealthy Fitzwilliam Darcy arrives in the rural county of Hertfordshire, he finds he cannot control his attraction to Elizabeth Bennet - a horrifying thought because, as she is too far below his social standing to ignite his heart, he fears she must appeal to the dark impulses he struggles to suppress.

Set against the vivid backdrop of historical Regency England, this adaptation of Pride and Prejudice follows the cursed Mr. Darcy as he endeavours to overcome both his love and his bloodlust for Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Although Pulse and Prejudice adheres to the original plot and style of the Jane Austen classic, it is not a "mash-up" but an imaginative, thrilling variation told primarily from Mr. Darcy's point of view as he descends into the seedier side of London and introduces Elizabeth to a world of passion and the paranormal she never knew existed.

Pulse and Prejudice has been meticulously researched for historical accuracy and remains faithful to nineteenth century literary conventions and Miss Austen's narrative. The author spent fifteen months traveling to Britain and researching Regency England, as well as vampire lore and literature. In the few instances in which the plots overlap, excerpts from canon have been expertly woven in so that prior knowledge of Pride and Prejudice is not required for full enjoyment of this remarkable novel.

Critic reviews

"Darcy's demise and subsequent 'rebirth' are written toperfection. It has renewed my faith in the sub-genre." (Reflections of a Book Addict)
"What would Jane Austen have thought? I think she would have loved this book. She might even have written it herself had she lived in a less constrained age." (Books Are Cool)
"Within only the first chapter, I found myself strangely drawn to the story. The vampire Darcy weaves his spell quickly." (Austenprose)

wonderful!loved the English posh voice.

The narrator goes well with this book. And different vampire story told by Darcy. But reasonably close to the story line of pride and prejudice . (Thank
God) .loved it!

what an interesting twist

Surprised at how much fun this book was to listen to. Classic tale, with a lusty vampire twist to add to the Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth Bennet tension. Well told!

Titillating!

Titillating!

Throughout this adaptation of P&P, the original story is intertwined with a bit of impropriety! Just enough to be tantalizing!

The narrator, though he sounded just a little mechanical, once I got passed the mechanical part, was great in portraying the feelings through his words!

Did not live up to potential

If you have read pride and prejudice this basically follows the entire story with a few and I say few changes. I was disappointed. The idea of Darcy being a vampire should have inspired more action and variety. I'm sorry to have wasted my money and time on this audio book. The potential was there but lost while the author copied the original. I'm at a loss. Don't spend your money unless you want a copy of p&p again. Darcy as a vampire did nothing more than drink mostly animal blood and follow his usual way to fall in love with Lizzy even having lady Catherine confront him with the rumors. Nothing interesting at the end.

Terrific Twist on a Classic

I thoroughly enjoyed this Darcy-point-of-view rendition of Pride and Prejudice. It stayed very true to the original (especially the dialogue) yet gave much better reasons in my mind for Darcy's aloofness than the original. For vampire fans who have read Austin, it's a must.

Fantastic. Mr. Darcy makes even more sense.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! this was great for the true P &P adult fan!

What did you like best about this story?

The blend of my favorite lines of P & P with a different perspective. Really well done.

Which character – as performed by Tim Campbell – was your favorite?

He did great with all of them. Elisabeth was not simpering and Darcy was perfect.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Now you know why... Darcy explained.
