About this listen

Imagine being alongside one of the greatest bands in the history of rock, touring the globe, and being there as they perform at some of the best and biggest music venues in the world. Peter Hince didn't have to imagine. For more than a decade, he lived a life that other people can only dream of as he worked with Queen as the head of their road crew.

In this intimate and affectionate book, Peter recalls the highlights of his years with the band. He was with Freddie when he composed "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"; he was responsible for making sure that Freddie's stage performances went without a hitch. He was often there to witness his famed tantrums and was also party to the sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll that are invariably part of life on the road with a band. This inside look at Queen and Freddie Mercury shows the real-life ups and downs of one of the most famed bands of all time and is a must-listen for any music fan.

A true Queen fan would love this book

The story gives a lot of inside perspective of what the band was like while on tour and while in recording sessions. very insightful and worth the listen. I would recommend it to both the casual and die hard fans.

Loved it!

After reading some of the reviews I got worried that there wouldn’t be enough Queen in this book. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the information shared in this story is not only full of Queen anecdotes that we might have heard in the past but also plenty of new stories and details we have never heard.
This isn’t a Queen documentary. This is a window into the world of a rock n roll band’s crew. Being a musician myself (at one point in my life) I found it fascinating! I felt like I was there. Like I was part of the crew. Another roadie walking backstage. I could almost smell the cigarette smoke and dirty clothes. I highly enjoyed this book and I will revisit it again soon.

So much fun!

A fascinating and often hilarious look at what life was like as a "roadie" for Queen. There are lots of great personal anecdotes about Queen, individually and collectively, but it's the details of touring, and particularly the mind-boggling logistics involved in the production of their live show, that put this a cut above other Queen books I've read (and I've read quite a number since FINALLY seeing the film 'Bohemian Rhapsody' a couple of months ago). Kudos and thanks to Mr. Hince for sharing his story -- and to the narrator, whose talent lends another layer of enjoyment to this entertaining work.

A surprisingly interesting and fascinating tale

Peter Hince's book is well-written. It is a fitting tribute to Queen the bank and Freddie Mercury in particular. After this book, I feel I have peeked into the backstory and personal lives of one of the greatest bands ever. Thank you Rattie!

Queen Unseen is a must for all Queen Fans

An absolute historical gem from start to finish and a must for all Queen fans. A engaging narrative chronicling the realities of life on the road with a world class band, which are so often masked by the outward glamour surrounding this lifestyle. Peter's unique insight shows us the level of hard work that both band and crew put into making Queen the touring sensation it became and how they were both intertwined and interdependent. Set in the 70s/80s where technological limitations made it that much harder to replicate the same desired effect show after show, you are given a perspective seldom seen and, an understanding as to how they were able to replicate memorable shows night after night on all four corners of the globe. Peter's attention to detail engages you from the word go. His discipline is on par with senior army personnel and his loyalty to the band is second to none. To me he is the fifth member of Queen!

What a great book!

Even if you aren’t a Queen fan this is very entertaining and actually educational. It is so well written. Such great stories told. And stories of the relationship between the writer and the members of Queen. Their adventures and hijinks so well written.

Great Read

Books that give an insight to Queen, are few. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author, Peter Hince, does a great job of telling his story, and for me personally, I almost feel as if I was there, witnessing history as it happened. That's the magic of books, I suppose. If you're looking for a book that gives you a great deal of insight into Freddie's life, this book isn't there one for you. This particular book is more about the life of Freddie's roadie, Peter Hince. However, Peter writes a good deal about his friendship, working relationship, and personal experiences with Freddie. It does go into great detail about the professional, and personal life of a roadie, and one who just happens to be a roadie for over of the biggest rock bands in history. If you're looking for a book that gives you a closer look at Freddie's personal life, then consider the one written by Jim Hutton, Freddie's longtime partner, titled "Mercury and Me." It doesn't get much more personal than that. I thoroughly enjoyed that book, and again, if you're looking to get an idea of who Freddie truly was, off stage, then that's the one for you. Again, I really enjoyed this book by Peter, and I believe that you will as well!
