About this listen

Living the RV lifestyle is not for everyone. But for all those folks that yearn for the freedom of the open road, the fun of exploring new places and the family atmosphere shared by RVers everywhere, RV life is a great life. This book is meant to be an aid for those with anxious but wobbling thoughts bouncing back-and-forth between RV full time, not full time, maybe part time now, full time someday or maybe never. This torturous muddling usually dwells on some serious key lifestyle questions such as… 1. Can I really give up my bricks-and-sticks home? 2. Can I live in a smaller space? 3. Can I afford to travel? 4. What will family and friends think? 5. Is a nomad life what I honestly want to do? Notice that I’ve used “I” or “me”, not “us” or “we” even though you are probably making this decision with a spouse or close friend. That’s because this decision is personal. You have to want this individually before you can enjoy it together. While the RV lifestyle is easy to do, it requires teamwork and discipline by all parties involved to be safe, carefree and fun. Each of you depends on his/her partner to fulfill whatever tasks needed. You’ll see evidence of this and how it affects the RV lifestyle as we address specific areas in various chapters. But for now, concentrate on what you personally want to do. And if you have to browbeat your partner to get him/her to agree with you, well, maybe RV life isn’t a good fit after all. By now you’ve probably discussed your thoughts with family and friends and have endured one negative sermon after another about giving up all you’ve worked for, moving away from friends and family, why you are too old to be travelling across country, why do you want to be trailer trash and whatever else they can think of to deter your decision. Why do they care? Because they do. But sadly for them and fortunately for you, it’s not their decision, it’s yours. So, look in the mirror and ask your heart what do you want to do? The rest of the questions above will be addressed as we (you and I or you and we if my wife chimes in) move through the process of introducing you to what RV life is about. We (wife and I) aren’t trying to make decisions for you. You have to do that yourself. But we can throw in a few ideas, reflect on some things learned and spout some things you might not have thought about. And, hopefully, by digesting what we say in relation to your own life’s dreams, you will be able to decide amongst the pros and cons as to how you truly feel about chucking it all and hitting the road for parts unknown!
