About this listen

The world’s largest volcano does not reside beneath Hawaii’s mountains, or in Washington state, but Yellowstone National Park. Past eruptions have darkened our continent and covered it with a blanket of ash that smothered both plant and animal life. Now the supervolcano, with its earthquakes and geysers, is monitored on a daily basis for signs of the beast reawakening.

When a new hot spring appears overnight in the park and a noted naturalist is scalded to death, Kyle Stone mounts an expedition into the Yellowstone backcountry to unravel the mystery.

By the time this ended, I was rooting for the volcano. Narrator Pruden did an adequate job, but I would happily have listened to an auctioneer rattle off this book to get through it more quickly.

A childhood tragedy sets the heroine on her life track to study geology, specializing in earthquakes. Unfortunately she's still subject to panic attacks in the dark, reluctant to revisit the area where her parents were killed in an earthquake and flood when she was six, and of course, that's becoming the most important area for her to be. Two men from her past join her in the studies of current seismic activity onsite, and she has to choose.

As I said, bring on the volcano - quickly!
