About this listen

In San Geronimo, New Mexico, the rich and famous mingle with the down and out, and the secrets of the past collide with the crimes of the present....

Shortly after private eye Howard Moon Deer decides to settle down with his latest lady love, he accepts a new case that takes him away from the home front and introduces him to the dangerous passions that drive San Geronimo's thriving art scene.

Howard and ex-police commander Jack Wilder have been hired to investigate Sherman Stone, a man notorious for his torrid liaisons and low-life friends. Rumor has it that he's planning to have his wealthy wife killed. But before Howard can separate fact from fiction, a local hobo is murdered, and then Sherman himself meets an untimely end. Now Howard and Jack must follow a sinister trail of clues that leads them into the past - to the night when a precious painting was stolen and a murderous legacy was born....

Highly Recommended

This is a great series of books. Great characters, excellent narration, and the storyline keeps your attention. The only negative is that there are so few Audible books in this series.

Better Writing

The author read the reviews and stopped describing vivid sexual acts. He also quit using word like

Interesting and yet ….

There is a lot of potential in these stories, but three things are irritating. The political nuances, the constant referral to desciptive sex, and now that we’re on the third book, I was hoping Howie would be just a little bit more mature. I love the narrator. He did one of Tony Hillerman‘s novels that I listened to and was totally credible with a native American dialogue.

Just not for me

Personal taste I guess. Never really got into it. Perhaps dated, rather monotone, didn’t spark interest .

I started with book 2 of the series
which was a good page turner.
This volume is too full of sterotypical characters to be fun though still a good mystery. I kept hearing music from the first season of TV's Guest Book as it went along.

Love the stories, lose the politics!

I love the premises you conjure up, very unique takes on cops and robbers - kinda unique - BUT…. Really, your liberal underwear is showing! Really? Blaming Reagan for homelessness???? I have no idea where you are from but in New England homelessness skyrocketed when Gov Dukakis closed all the mental health hospitals. 90% of the street people were off there rocker, but now its drugs and the liberal border treatment and drug enforcement.
