About this listen

I need a new man like I need a hole in the head.

The last one almost killed me. Literally.

I barely escaped with my life, and when I end up on a ranch in Central Texas, I’m just looking for a place to hide out and recover.

But then Reece Walker saunters in.

(Why, God? Do you enjoy torturing me like this? Is it fun for you?)

I tell myself it’ll just be one night. We’ll do the horizontal mambo and then I’ll have him out of my system.…

But it turns out Reece isn’t the kind of man you easily forget. Especially when I end up staying on at the ranch. Day in, day out, he’s there. Him and his big blue eyes, stupid muscles, dumb jokes, and searing gazes that hit me straight in the -
ahem. Nope. Not falling for it. I’ve got way too much baggage and I gotta be moving on soon.

I can’t think about building a future when I never know if my past might catch up with me....

Could have been great

hmm...could have been great but for several moments...
10 years in an abusive relationship and she sleeps with the first nice man two nights after meeting him weeks after escaping.
just so chipper about life weeks after escaping a 10 year abusive relationship...10 years...although this could have been the narrators intonation throughout. Her behavior perhaps more believable if not 10 years of being beaten down emotionally and physically.
Great storyline that really could have been a great book of strength and courage.

👎🏿 nope

This story while okay, felt like it was written by a different person. I didn’t hate it, but ì surely didn’t like this book😔

Not at all like it's predecessors.

I'm honestly shocked at the reviews for this book. I really like Stasia Black. I loved Book 1: The Virgin & the Beast and Book 3: The Virgin Next Door, enjoyed Book 2: Hunter. Hunter is definitely more mellow than Virgin & the Beast, but still enjoyable. And Virgin Next Door is excellent in its own right. Reece, however, didn't read the same and it didn't hold up to the others at all.

I definitely got the "Sleeping with the Enemy" vibe at the beginning with her abuse and escape, but once she got to the ranch she didn't seem to have any hang-ups considering what she'd been through and what she was still remembering. SPOILERS!! The second intimate encounter between her and Reece (which she instigated as well as the first) was her request to roll-play in which she wanted to be "student" to his "teacher" which is how she met her abusive husband! And Reece has no idea that's what's going on! It was so cringey and uncomfortable I had to fast-forward through it and ended up fast-forwarding through most of the intimate scenes after because the idea just left such a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not prude. But that was a line for me. No personal trauma, that was just a line. Ultimately, nothing about the book was that satisfying and I didn't really get any highs or lows in the story development. If you haven't read the others, definitely check those out. But'd I'd pass on this one.
