Great story with good narration

I haven't listened to virtual voice audiobooks before, but I was pleasantly surprised. The voice is just slightly computer-y, and it's better than some human voices I've heard do read-alouds. I thought it worked best on the narration/action, which I would give 4 stars for. The dialogue performance I would rate at 3 stars, though, because the intonation, emphasis, and even volume didn't sound as natural for characters talking.

The story, however, is wonderful. "Remix" is a short story (five chapters) that's a prequel to the Night Owls series. I had read a couple of the books before I experienced this story, but you could definitely start with the prequel and be able to follow along. I enjoyed the world building woven through even a short piece, and it's fun to see Ethan and Desi getting into more "everyday" trouble before things ramp up in book 1.

If you're new to the Night Owls, this will be a fun introduction. If you've experienced some of the books already, it will help fill in some of the backstory for you.
