About this listen

Use your mind's natural rhythm to learn a language with Rhythms Easy Finnish from EuroTalk.

It's naturally easier to learn something when it's set to rhythmic music, so that is exactly what we've done. Rhythms put your mind painlessly to work: you don't even need to focus! Simple words and phrases are set to a varied pattern of rhythms and music designed to help you learn and to keep you engaged so that you won't just switch off after five minutes. It won't get you fluent, but it will give you an easy road into starting to learn a completely new language.

If you just want a few simple words and phrases before going abroad, Rhythms is all you need. It covers absolute essentials such as how to greet people, basic directions, getting around, food and drink. You'll hear Finnish spoken by both a male and a female native speaker and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to test how well you're doing with the review stages built in at key points in each track.

Rhythms can be used anytime, anywhere; listen in the car or on the train, walking the dog, doing housework or exercising at the gym. Absorbing a language couldn't be easier and EuroTalk Rhythms has over 120 different languages to choose from.

Not worth it

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It was difficult to focus on and I felt like I learned very little from the experience. The music was a distraction and a detractor, as opposed to the claim it would make remembering easier. At points it overwhelmed the lesson itself.

What could EuroTalk Ltd have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

First of all, lower the music volume and use more "defined" voices - Finnish is a very clear language, but the susurrus that this production gave made the natural rhythm more difficult to catch for me as a listener and learner.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jamie Stuart’s performances?

Since this is not a fiction book, I cannot judge the narrator performance.

What character would you cut from Rhythms Easy Finnish?

The background music.

Any additional comments?

I have been trying to learn Finnish from a variety of sources, but this has to be one of the weaker examples.

Not what I expected

This is set of vocabulary lessons with smooth jazz playing in the background.

I expected that the words would be said in time with the music, but this was not the case.
