Couldn’t finish it

I really liked other Costain works and looked forward to good writing and good fun and was so disappointed. The story had great potential but descended quickly into a very irritating love story that made me alternately want to metaphorically strangle the hero and then the horribly self-infatuated heroine. For an author with such an amazing historical perspective to write this garbage for me was slightly shocking. Can’t recommend it. Try Dr Fu Manchu by Sax Rohmer. Very well constructed, certainly dated but entertaining without strain.
