About this listen

R'jaal has waited many turns of the seasons for his khui to resonate, only to be disappointed time and time again. But when he is taken captive by strange beings hiding in the very tunnels of the fruit caves, he wakes up to find himself in a strange underground cage.

Also in the cage? A very pretty unfamiliar human female. She says her name is Rosalind. She makes his khui sing.

It's finally his time.

There's a big problem, though—Rosalind has no khui of her own. And if she doesn't get one soon, she could die.

Contains mature themes.

R'jaal's Resonance (Ice Planet Clones)

R'jaal is wondering why only he and Tia have not resonated. He does not feel connected to her and yet there aren’t other possible matches available. In the meantime, Tia is heartbroken because the one guy she wanted has resonated with another. In addition, the tribe is investigating the loss of all the fruit in the fruit cave. Then Tia and R'jaal are taken captive by strange beings hiding in tunnels under the fruit caves, R'jaal wakes up to find himself in a strange underground cawhy cage.

Also in the cage? A very pretty unfamiliar human female. She says her name is Rosalind. Now his khui sings.

There's a big problem, though -- Rosalind has no khui of her own. And if she doesn't get one soon, she could die. But their captors think she has the Khoi sickness and should be killed.

I love all these spin off series and how they evolve. So so good!! Can’t wait to see what is next. Or should I say who is next? :)

A spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff

It’s like a six degrees of Kevin Bacon connecting up the various series in the Risdaverse. The only connection to the original Ice Planet Barbarians series is the location of ice planet Not Hoth, and Liz and Rahosh, a couple residing with the multi-tribe settlement Icehome. That Icehome series is closest to this newest series, with R’jaal and that series’ couples present in the second half. There’s also a connection to the Corsairs and Risdaverse series in the clones aspect and the explanation for Rosalind and others ending up on Not Hoth. However, this book was laid out well enough that you could start here (as if learning about the world from Rosalind’s newcomer POV) and still follow along just fine.

I’ve been waiting for R’jaal to find his one and enjoyed seeing how happy everyone was for his HEA. Rosalind’s librarian background and love of fanfic and shipping was fun too. The folks responsible for R’jaal’s and Rosalind’s imprisonment may forecast greater conflict in the rest of the series, but this opening book was pretty low key on angst. Things drag a bit as Rosalind suffers an identity crisis upon realizing she’s permanently stranded. All things considered, however, there were enough things familiar and new to make this latest spinoff a great listen.

New characters

More layers to Not Hoth. New characters connecting the modern world to the barbarians. I really enjoyed this ever expanding universe. Ruby Dixon, does it again
