About this listen
Esther Richardson longs to live a life of meaning, and settling for a hometown suitor simply won't do. Instead, she writes to the American Mission Board requesting a post in the West. A single woman of 23, she's shocked when a tall stranger arrives at her door. Sent by the Board, Johnathan Shepherd needs a wife to take West, and he's here to see if Esther will fit the bill.
Will her new, firm husband and the hard journey West break Esther's spirit, or give her the adventure she's always wanted?

Entertaining story
I enjoyed listening to this story on audible. A romance with a happy ever after I wouldn't call it sweet as it does contain some erotic scenes with spanking, but it was entertaining. I wish the rest of the series was also on audible.

A Cute Quick Listen
What made the experience of listening to Rocky Mountain Dawn the most enjoyable?
A great spanking novel. Esther is headstrong and independent. These should be traits to be treasured and nurtured, but in the 1800's on the Western Frontier, those traits can get her in big trouble.
So what's a new husband to do with his intelligent, educated, and reckless wife? Take her in hand and show her discipline.
What did you like best about this story?
That it's based loosely on a true story.
What does Mutt Rogers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Odd choice for a male narrator in a novel that is told entirely from the heroine's point of view. He was good, though.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There is a niche for spanking novels, so some listeners will enjoy it and some might find it offensive.
Any additional comments?
It's a short listen, but it was cute.

Series Beginning Only
This is a nice start to the series & we do learn more about this couple in other stories but there are big gaps in their story, even with future revelations. But the story is nice & the relationship organic, not forced for the shortness of the story.
The story itself was ruined by the narration. I won't buy any more audible books with this narrator. Mispronounced words and an immature tone, emphasis on the wrong words are just examples of what went wrong. It was creepy at times, made me cringe.

good story, ruined buy first grade level reading.
the narrator read this book with all the skills of a first grade student reading Dick and Jane. by the end of the first chapter I had to pause the recording, and take an aspirin, because I had rolled my eyes so many times I was getting a headache. it is a good story but the discipline scenes could have been pain with more detail.
