About this listen

Rose and Levi only have one rule—make their own rules.

Free spirited Rose Alden is her father’s youngest child, and his disappointment. Her sharp mind and wit are matched only by her sarcastic tongue and disobedience in finding a suitable husband like her older sisters did. She’s desperate to live her own life, make her own rules, and marriage is not something she is interested in.

Ranch hand Levi Patterson understands just how Rose feels. It’s why he’s grateful to be working for her father on the Alden’s quiet ranch. However, the past he thought he’d left behind has caught up, demanding he choose between the needs of others and his own.

A sudden change of events forces them each to make a decision that will change the future forever. Will Rose fight for what she longs for? Can Levi return to what was, or will he continue to blaze his own path with Rose by his side?

Sweet

This was a sweet clean western style historical romance that didn’t follow the expected route. The ending was still a happy ever after, but the way it happened kept me interested throughout the story. I enjoyed this book, and the narrator did an excellent job with both the voicing and the pace.

5++ stars for this gem

Romancing the Wrangler is a delight to listen to.

The well-crafted writing of Sarah Lamb is brought to life by the narration of Spencer Dillehay.

This is a story of two individuals who have more in common than they could ever imagine.

Rose Alden is the daughter of a wealthy horse rancher. Her parents are determined to marry her off to a man who’s part of the proper social and economic class. Rose wants more out of life. She’d like her own business, like her father has.

Levi Patterson is her father’s talented horse wrangler, who’s fleeing his former life. The son of a doctor, he was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps. Instead, he chose his own path.

A chance encounter in the stable ignites a spark neither of them can understand but can’t forget. But then, Rose leaves for the big city to be placed under the very watchful eye of her aunt who is determined to find her niece a husband.

Lamb has written a story that is well-paced, populated with great characters, each with their own mannerisms. And those people become very real under the expert narration of Dillehay. He speaks life into the author’s well-written dialogue. He conveys the disdain Rose’s dad has for her sarcastic wit, the disappointment of her mother, as well as the hopes of Rose herself, with ease.

His portrayals of the characters made me laugh in several places. I could see Rose’s mom, her nose pinched, scolding her daughter at the kitchen table.

His narration of events and descriptions also deserve a round of applause. I could feel the beauty of the ranch and smell the fresh air. When a quick and severe storm occurred, I shivered right along with Rose as she struggled to get her horse under control.

What I’m trying to say is that I enjoyed this audiobook tremendously. It was the perfect collaboration of Lamb and Dillehay. And I hope to be reading more from this dynamic duo.
