About this listen

Seventeen-year-old Banyan is a tree builder. Using salvaged scrap metal, he creates forests for rich patrons who seek a reprieve from the desolate landscape. Although Banyan's never seen a real tree - they were destroyed more than a century ago - his missing father used to tell him stories about the Old World. Everything changes when Banyan meets a mysterious woman with a strange tattoo-a map to the last living trees on earth, and he sets off across a wasteland from which few return. Those who make it past the pirates and poachers can't escape the locusts...the locusts that now feed on human flesh. But Banyan isn't the only one looking for the trees, and he's running out of time. Unsure of whom to trust, he's forced to make an alliance with Alpha, a beautiful, dangerous pirate with an agenda of her own. As they race towards a promised land that might be a myth, Banyan makes shocking discoveries about his family, his past, and how far people will go to bring back the trees.

Original, Compelling and Action-packed

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! A fantastic and fantastical tale... unlike anything else. Wonderful characters and an unforgettable setting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rootless?

The steel and copper forest in Old Orleans and the battle that takes place upon the city's walls.

What about Nick Podehl’s performance did you like?

He captured the main character's voice well, and brought the others to life, doing justice to the diverse cast.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes--- though broke it up over a week.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this--fans of Hunger Games, Maze Runner, the Mel Gibson Mad Max movies, the Road. Not a pleasant world to be in sometimes, but truly a rewarding story where I never what was coming next.

Two different Authors?

The book in the beginning didnt feel like the same book at the end. Not because it had evolved but because it just went in a totally weird direction. Thinking back on the entire book it felt like such a long book and not in a good way. I did enjoy the correlation {I believe} between Monsanto (the agriculture business in the United States) and GenTech. Thats something that could very well happen and its worth writing and reading about. The other aspects of the story didnt entertain me. I will not be reading the next book.
