About this listen

Ross Poldark is a heartwarming, gripping, and utterly entertaining saga that brings to life an unforgettable cast of characters and one of the greatest love stories of our age.

Ross Poldark returns to Cornwall from war, looking forward to a joyful homecoming with his family and his beloved Elizabeth. But instead, he discovers that his father has died, his home is overrun by livestock and drunken servants, and Elizabeth, having believed Ross dead, is now engaged to his cousin. Ross must start over, building a completely new path for his life, one that takes him in exciting and unexpected directions....

Thus begins an intricately plotted story spanning loves, lives, and generations. The Poldark series is the masterwork of Winston Graham, who evoked the period and people like only he could, and created a world of rich and poor, loss and love, that listeners will not soon forget.

Wonderful story. Wonderful storytelling!

I love Audible because I can absorb more books than I ever could by reading them. The characters are well described, not just in appearance, but in their thoughts and actions. The narrator was great, clearly defining which character was speaking with different voices and accents, female as well as male. I look forward to the next book in this series!

Excellent!

I love this series and read by Oliver Hembrough it is absolutely a treat to hear! He is an actor in his own right, able to make you feel like you are hearing the book being read by several different characters when it is just him. Highly recommend!

Cheated

What made the experience of listening to Ross Poldark the most enjoyable?

Great story. Very good listen. But for the money don't buy it. You only get part of the story and you have to buy another book to hear the rest. It makes the book too pricey. It's not THAT good.

What other book might you compare Ross Poldark to and why?

Outlander time period. Poor depth compared to a Gabaldon book.

Have you listened to any of Oliver Hembrough’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No

Wonderful narration BUT

I like this recording alot. I love the Poldark books and this just seems right

BUT I suggest speeding up the audio as the reader reads VERY slow.
I listen on 1.5 and sometimes even then seems too slow. But its an easy fix with the speed settings.

female voices needed

The story was a good one, but I would have enjoyed it much more if there had been female voices as well as male.
