About this listen

The silence of a prairie night hides many secrets.

Needing to get out of Manhattan after a personal tragedy, Abby Markstein accepts a teaching job in the heart of flyover country. One night while jogging through a deserted hollow, she comes upon a car consumed in flames. The only thing more horrifying than the dead man at the wheel is the live one smiling at her in the livid glow of the fire.

Welcome to Lewisburg, Indiana.

The lone witness to the gruesome roadside slaying, Abby quickly learns that the quiet town conceals many secrets. When another brutal murder takes place, she starts seeing signs that somebody is watching her. And this time, running will not help her hide.

Great storyline but foul language

This book has a great storyline but a lot of foul language I wouldn’t recommend to a younger listener or reader

Running in the Dark

Unusual story, but enjoyed it. The narrator brought the characters alive. Will look out for more stories.

Good Solid Suspense...

I've never listened to anything by Sam Reaves before. I really liked this book. It's not an edge of your seat kind of thriller but it is very good. I would call this one more of a slow burn. Please don't get me wrong it's not a slow book and it certainly is not boring.
Abby moves to a small town after leaving NYC. She's only there a short time when she sees a man whose been murdered burning in a car. On the other side of the car is the man who killed him. And he's smiling.
The police think it has something to do with the drug cartels. Then there's another murder. There are some unstable characters in this story and just when you think everything is all wrapped up nice and pretty, something else happens that puts Abby's life in danger. Not really out of left field but clearly not expected.
Anyway, Emily Sutton-Smith does an outstanding job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
