About this listen
After becoming the most successful child actor in Hollywood and the roles becoming scarce and more derogatory, a successful black actress moves back to her hometown to escape the insanity of the business, mend her now broken family, find positive role models for her children, and rear them in a less fake and hostile environment.
Along the way we witness a once prominent community falling from grace, a younger sister broken by abusive relationships, a rebellious brother turned criminal, a widowed mother losing her faith, and a strong African American couple rising above foolishness.
Will her former hometown rise above poverty and adversity? Can a sister damaged by cruel and abusive men learn to love herself? Will the rebellious, criminal, brother walk the straight and narrow? Can a widowed mother be reborn? Will her daughter find happiness? Can a black woman shine?
These questions and more are answered in Sista Meet Struggle, an in depth look into one woman's journey to find peace and happiness, while becoming the best version of herself. A MUST READ!!!
P.S. - This was once called When A Black Woman Shines. I changed the title because the book is a mixture of triumph and struggle. The struggle is most relatable, and happens on a daily basis. Therefore, When Sista Meets Struggle is a more fitting title. We all have identical struggles. The struggle to obtain the best for our children, and find a suitable mate. The struggle to find purpose and get the best job, with the highest wage possible. The everyday struggle to survive, pay off the car note, and take care of bills, not to mention keeping families together and fighting for the American dream. Of course this is about the greatest struggle of all, which is the struggle to be happy. In that way the main character is a reflection of us all. Again, A MUST READ!!!
