About this listen

When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.

But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her... a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards... and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

Safe Haven

Well I am hooked! This was my first purchase, I thought what the heck it didn't cost anything I will give it a try. What a great first book to try. I found myself volunteering to go to the store just to listen to the rest of it. The reader was wonderful!

Sappy and Cliche-ed Romance Novel

After listening to this book, I realized that this author wrote "The Notebook" and "Message in a Bottle." If I had remembered that, I wouldn't have bought this book. This story is a romance, and filled with cliches. It didn't hold my interest much at all, although I was interested in how the main character escaped from her husband. So read this book if you like sappy romances with unreal characters. Otherwise, don't.

Easy listen

This was my 1st Audiobook. Sparks wrote this well, good story line (reminded me of the movie sleeping with the enemy) but a different twist at the end. The narrator did a good job, but haven't listened to others as this was my 1st.

Surprising ending

Nice reading. One gets involved very easily with the story. Amazing to see how two people can have very different perspectives about the same experience. And it only gets better toward the end.

couldn't stop listening to this!

Excellent love story and life story! The mystery was fun to follow even if I thought I knew each plot outcome I didn't guess it most of the time.

Nice Easy Listen

Any additional comments?

It was great listen for a long car ride. The book was pretty predictable with one slight twist at the end. Even though it was predictable, it kept me entertained wanting to listen to the very end.
