Critic reviews

"Prelutsky introduces the curious inhabitants of Scranimal Island through his skillful and captivating poems. The creatures, such as the Mangorilla and Orangutangerine, are each a cross between an animal and a fruit, vegetable, or flower, and behave accordingly." School Library Journal)

great book from my childhood but why does the narrator sing some of the poems but not others?

cute and surreal

Jack Prelutsky as an author is amazing. Scranimals has been a family favorite for years. We have read it so many times that we know each page by heart. The vocabulary and rhythm of the poems are utterly brilliant. It's silly while also being clever and funny. The illustrations in the print book are charming.

Jack Prelutsky as a narrator is painful to listen to. What you don't hear in the preview for this book is the author singing the poems after he reads them. It's repetitive, unnecessary and annoying. I bought this book to listen to with my children. They both adore the print book so I thought this would be a sure winner for car trips and before bedtime. Ha, nope. They don't like it either.

Great book, terrible narration.

My seven-year-old loves this book. He listens to it often with a copy of the print book in hand. He loves the singing, the text, the pictures, and he loves that he can control how he listens with the audio. I am thankful for the help in reading too!

The other review is ridiculously harsh!
