About this listen

It is an Age of Legends.

Under the watchful eye of the Giants, the kingdoms of Men rose to power. Now, the Giant-King has slain the last of the Serpents and ushered in an era of untold peace and prosperity. Where a fire-blackened desert once stood, golden cities flourish in verdant fields.

It is an Age of Heroes.

But the realms of Man face a new threat: an ancient sorcerer slaughters the rightful King of Yaskatha before the unbelieving eyes of his son, young Prince D'zan. With the Giant-King lost to a mysterious doom, it seems that no one has the power to stop the coming storm.

It is an Age of War.

The fugitive Prince seeks allies across the realms of Men and Giants to liberate his father's stolen kingdom. Six foreign Princes are tied to his fate. Only one thing is certain: War is coming.

Seven Princes. Some will seek glory. Some will seek vengeance. All will be legends.

This started out good but it got bogged down. There are a lot of characters but what really sealed the deal (I didn't finish it) is when the story line went into a long philosophical discussion about half way through (the author is a HS teacher so maybe that had something to do with it, dunno). Anywho, couldn't finish the book. It just lost me.

Fast-paced is the best way to describe this epic fantasy novel. From the way I understand it this is book 1 of 4 in the series and it is a series I will be waiting for. There are so many great ideas in this novel that it could have easily taken 4 novels to tell this this one instalment. This is not a fantasy series based on realism or delayed gratification. It suggests that something is going to happen and then it happens.

Once or twice I had to go back and figure out if something was a metaphor or meant to be real... sometimes in magical stories it is hard to tell. But this also lends itself to some great imagery either way ... "the great serpent belched a hurricane across the town."

I recommend this read if you really just want some fun high epic fast-paced fantasy escapism.
