About this listen

Jim Beard's original occult investigator, Sgt. Roman Janus, returns in a second all-new collection of suspenseful adventures. Or does he? At the end of the first book, Sgt. Janus: Spirit Breaker, our intrepid hero mysteriously vanished into another realm never to be seen again.

Now, almost a full year later, a dark-haired beauty, with no memory of her own identity, suddenly appears and begins assuming Janus' role in seeking out troublesome poltergeist and laying them to rest. Aided by a young clerk named Joshua, this mysterious Lady Janus possesses personal knowledge known only to the missing occultist. Who is this strange, daring woman? Is she Janus reincarnated? Or is she something even more sinister?

Once again writer Jim Beard turns the entire occult genre upside down as he delivers another eight stories filled with mystery, horror, and non-stop action - all driving to a startling finale pulp fans of the weird dare not miss.

Spookterier to the first novel

This novel is superior to the first novel in so many ways. Beard's writing is just on fire, and his story telling is cranked up to eleven. If you liked the first book, and how could you not, then you will love this book. Funny thing is, the Sarge is missing for most of the book, or is he? I don't want to let anything out, but suffice it to say that we get to see more of his odd house and the lady who resides there. A lady who starts proclaiming herself as Janus. You might recall something really bad happening to him him at the end of book one, and this lady might just be in possession of things only Janus would know. Joshua Hargreaves helps lady J and together they continue the work the Sgt. Started before vanishing. There are eight amazing stories here, and a third book is planned. I hope it comes soon, as I really hate waiting for fine tales such as this to continue.
Joe Formichella narrates the heck out of this book ,and I think he is a perfect fit for Beard's style. He returns to continue the great work that he did in the first book. He really is the chocolate to Beard's peanut butter. Beard has written a great many other stories of a similar bent that I seriously suggest that you look into including the Purple Scar, Monster Aces, Occult Detectives, Captain Action, and the Black Bat to name a few. Check them out after this and you won't be sorry. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
