Publisher's summary

Six thousand years ago, my ancestor fled the world that we had called home for millions of years because of a foolish war based solely on religious ideology, which should have long since faded into our past.

We thought we had found peace among the stars, and instead, we found only enemies. Now war rages in the Orion arm of the galaxy, and while we have our back turned, an ancient and evil enemy has returned.

Great Story, Abysmal Narrator

As an author Jeremy Spires rocks! I sure hope he can get this book re-recorded quickly as I think he’s going to be a fast mover on Audible.

D.C. Newman needs to listen to some top fiction narrators like Jim Dale and R.C. Bray. He MUST realize that good narrators KNOW their story well—they have studied what they’re reading enough to 1) manage diverse characters’ voices, 2) express believable emotions, 3) handle pacing, 4) nail all pronunciations, and 5) have zero problems with common usage AND genre/story jargon. It’s not okay to upload a clunky, cold reading—EVER. If he has any experience, I assume Newman has been a non-fiction narrator in the past. His narration was almost as much fun as my A/C circuits class...(huh, maybe Dr. Robinson missed making his fortune narrating bedtime stories!)

With a better narrator this would easily be 5-stars overall.

Cannot wait for more.

Negative first. The narrator needs to work on tone and inflection to better portray the emotions of each moment. During the narrative he's fine, but the more emotional or comedic times not so much.
Given that this was Jeremy's first novel it's quite good. Even better than many novels I've read recently. I know his skills will continue to grow as he writes more, and I look forward to following along. I must add that Jeremy's military service shows through his writing. The lingo and fast paced action oozes with a real world feel and only embellished enough to show the differences in the genetically modified heroes and to make good SciFi. Give it a go, it's worth the time and money!

headline says optional, but it still requires one?

Story was pretty good, typical main character is bigger and badder than everyone else. The narrator though wasn't that good.

confusing mess with potential

(recived for free)
The story seems rushed at several places, and the pacing seemed off. The biggest problem in my opinion, is the giant infodump at the prolouge. Yet despite that, the story builds an interesting universe that I woulden't mind learning more about.

I tried...

Perhaps the story isn't what I'm used to, but I just couldn't get into it, I couldn't enjoy it. Honestly, it reads like a 13 year old boy wrote it.
The perfect soldier who runs his mouth, does some pretty unbelievable things, and somehow never gets in trouble. The main character is too perfect, too protected by the writer. Situations are complicated and completely ridiculous. Even for a sci-fi novel.

Strange

I listen to audio books daily and this has to be the absolute worse ever, honestly i think it was written by an 8th grader.
Anyway good luck trying to follow along.
