Publisher's summary

He arrived at the scene; his backup had disappeared. Then he heard the screams. Peeking around the corner of the tenement apartment building he saw two men holding down a young naked girl, viciously raping her while she screamed in absolute terror.

In his first three years on patrol, Officer Sean Mulcahy arrested murderers, rapists, armed robbers, drug dealers, prostitutes, pimps, and encountered department and political corruption at the highest levels. He suffered a bruised trachea, a broken hand, heat stroke, a fence-punctured hand, two broken teeth, and a severe head injury. He was shot at and covered with human and animal excrement, lice, fleas, and other parasites while working in an extremely dangerous part of Kansas City, enduring it all to protect and serve the citizens in his district.

Mulcahy answers timeless questions and misconceptions about police work, like: Why aren't you out stopping real crime instead of writing me a ticket? Why did you have to get physical with that person? You don't even care about the people in the inner city, do you? These questions and more are addressed by using Officer Mulcahy's actual police experiences. Shotgun Summer is a collection of over sixty-five true stories of his first three years on patrol.

Being a cop is awful!

When I chose this book, I thought it would be a cop story, but it was more of a cop’s own story. What it’s like to actually be a police officer and all horrors therein.
I enjoyed the reader’s voice. He sounded like he was the real deal.
We listened to it on a cross country drive and are looking forward to hearing him read again.

Gripping stories told by an incredible narrator

A fantastic police book. Each story is well written and gives an authentic look into the things police regularly deal with that don't make the news. The Narrator is a master at telling them in a no nonsense, real manner that puts you right at the scene. Highly reccomend for anyone who wants a real look into the life of a police officer!

The real life of being a cop

What an amazing, eye opening look into the REAL life of a cop. Both uplifting and heart wrenching, the Author and voice actor were spot on. I will reread this book many times to remind me how much cops matter. The voice of Dakton Bosun was captivating and incredible! This book is a Must Read!!

Life of a police officer revealed with the good and the just plain awful detail!

I liked the breadth of the collection of stories- from harrowing to hilarious. It sparkles sympathy for how difficult the vocation really is.

As for Mr. Bosun’s narration, he mastered so many characters of various ages, races, dialects and personalities. I thought he was very adept at portraying the women characters which is especially challenging to pull off. His delivery was dynamic and compelling! He captured the pace of telling the nail biting scenes as well as the heart wrenching moments. Well done!
