About this listen
Joey Mancuso’s world is turned upside down when a young man walks into his life, claiming to be his son from a relationship twenty years ago.
Desperate for help, the boy tells Mancuso he’s facing a murder charge for a crime he insists he didn’t commit. Uncertain if the young man is truly his son, but intrigued by the striking resemblance, Mancuso reluctantly agrees to investigate.
As Mancuso delves into the boy’s troubling circumstances, he uncovers deeper layers of deception. Adriana, the boy’s mother and Mancuso's past love is uncovered by him in spite of the boy claiming his mother is dead.
While grappling with this personal challenge, Mancuso’s focus shifts when the same woman, stumbles upon a disturbing secret related to an impending terror attack on New York City. The authorities are initially dismissive, but as Mancuso digs deeper, the looming threat becomes all too real.
With time running out and lives at stake, Mancuso must navigate treacherous waters involving shadowy terrorist networks, high-stakes chases, and explosive revelations. Facing one of the biggest challenges of his life, Mancuso is forced to question who he can trust—and what he must sacrifice to save the city from disaster.
Author Parr, after the success of his prior release, "In the Shadows of the Game," which garnered a Silver Medal by International Reader's Favorite, takes Mancuso and Father O'Brian into a roller coaster of a thriller. Add to that the appearance of a son he never knew existed and the resurgence of his first love, Shredded Veil, promises to be a thrilling audiobook and sure award winner.
Fans of Dennis DeMille, Michael Connolly, James Patterson, and others crime mystery authors, will devour Parr's new release.

What sets Shredded Veil apart from its predecessors is how deeply personal the stakes are this time. The introduction of a potential son—and Adriana, Mancuso’s ex-lover—added a humanizing vulnerability to the ever-cunning detective. I didn’t expect this turn of events, but Parr handled it masterfully, weaving it seamlessly into a larger, high-stakes thriller about a looming terror attack. The way the plot morphed from a potential murder defense to a race against time to save New York City was both gripping and exhilarating. It’s rare for a story to pivot so dramatically while still feeling cohesive, but Parr nailed it.
As always, the narration played a key role in my enjoyment. Randy McCarten’s performance brought Joey Mancuso and Father O’Brien to life with that signature blend of grit and warmth I’ve come to love. Listening to this story felt like catching up with old friends—if your friends also happened to be solving crimes and saving the city. The new characters, particularly the young man at the center of it all, added an intriguing layer to the story, making it feel both fresh and emotionally resonant.
If you’ve enjoyed Parr’s previous works, you’ll appreciate how Shredded Veil keeps the spirit of the series alive while pushing boundaries in new directions. It’s a fast-paced, heart-stopping thriller with just the right amount of personal drama to keep you invested. I flew through it, and I can’t wait to see where Joey Mancuso goes next. If you’re a fan of crime mysteries with heart, this one’s a must-listen.
