Story
In 2012 retired South African general Johan Jooste was parachuted into the seemingly unwinnable war against rhino poaching in the Kruger National Park. With poaching spiralling out of control, Jooste was given the mandate to 'go military', to convert Kruger's ranger corps into a para-military force capable of taking the fight to poachers. Aged 60, white, and a veteran of 35 years of military service, Jooste's controversial appointment was immediately met with resentment and hostility by elements of South African National Parks, the police, and even the military he had served with.

Boyd Varty had an unconventional upbringing. He grew up on Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa, a place where man and nature strive for balance, where perils exist alongside wonders. Founded more than 80 years ago as a hunting ground, Londolozi was transformed into a nature reserve beginning in 1973 by Varty’s father and uncle, visionaries of the restoration movement. But it wasn’t just a sanctuary for the animals; it was also a place for ravaged land to flourish again and for the human spirit to be restored.

Story
Siddhartha, a story based on the early life of Gautama Buddha, is concerned with the human search for self-knowledge and authentic spirituality. Hesse had written the first part of the book easily enough, but had to stop for a year with depression, before completing it in 1922. The book is a synthesis of Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist, and Christian thought, though Hesse rejected all conventional religion for a more individual and personal path.

Editorial reviews
Kruger National Park in north-western South Africa is the beautiful and explosive setting for Silent Predator, Tony Park’s thriller of kidnapping and exotic adventure. Australian actor Mark Davis provides the swarthy voice that carries the listener through the big game park all the way to the dangerous waters of Mozambique. Park, who in real life maintains a tent with his wife in the Kruger, knows his territory well.
The story focuses on Detective Sergeant Tom Furey and his high-stakes search for a kidnapped government official. He is joined in the hunt by Sannie van Rensburg, a sexy and driven inspector who is drawn to Furey with a fury. Together, Sanni and Tom must fight predators from the human to the reptilian and more.

Story
It's been said that all great literature boils down to one of two stories—a man takes a journey, or a stranger comes to town. While mystery writers have been successfully using both approaches for generations, there's something undeniably alluring in the nature of a stranger: the uninvited guest, the unacquainted neighbor, the fish out of water. In the newest collection of stories by the Mystery Writers of America, each author weaves a fresh tale surrounding the eerie feeling that comes when a stranger enters our midst, featuring stories by prolific mystery writers.

In a riveting debut thriller that has drawn comparisons to masters of the genre like Dennis Lehane and Michael Connelly, Brian Freeman weaves obsession, sex, and revenge into a story that grips the reader with vivid characters and shocking plot twists from the first minute to the last.

Good book, terrible narration
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, it was an interesting story
What was one of the most memorable moments of Silent Predator?
sadly a negative one, the narration is terrible, in particular in the grasp of the South African accent and place names. Rather stick to an english accent, than try a South African accent that is so false.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Absolutely no grasp of a typical South African accent. I cringe every time i hear the narrator attempt it.
Did Silent Predator inspire you to do anything?
no
Any additional comments?
If a book is written in a specific country, and includes characters from that country, get an english speaking narrator from that country to present the book.

Enjoyable once you can get past the performance
Good story line and I did listen to the end but if one lives in South Africa the mispronunciations of places and some of the accents are extremely Grating. The Afrikaans accent is real with some Afrikaner’s but when it was also used for a black officer, I couldn’t believe it. And the speech for the main female role sounded like a man with a truly rough accent which simply didn’t lend itself to a female. My suggestion would be to rather read this one!

Great book, enjoyable, despite the poor reading
I really enjoyed the book... but the reading unfortunately was not good. The accents were a disaster! The "afrikaner" accent was not convincing (to an ex-South African)and many afrikaans words, place names, etc. were not correctly pronounced. Also the fact that black africans had the same accent as afrikaners shows a completely lack of understanding...
Despite all of this, I really enjoyed the book and would have probably given it a rare 5 if the reader had not detracted and distracted. Pity they could not have found a reader familiar with the various South African accents.
(By the way his Scottish accent was not convincing either...and he mispronounced certain regular english words too..)
Tony Park if you want me to listen to another of your books please change readers, though I am not sorry I listed to this one.

Being a South African I found the pronunciation of the Afrikaans words cringe worthy. It grated every nerve.

Lots of twists and a realistic African setting
This was my first Tony Park book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narration was lively. The storyline held my attention and took a number of unanticipated twins. A bit predictable as each new twist on folded but overall good characterization, interesting plot, and good narrator.

Brilliant
I really enjoyed the book, as positive criticism please find a Afrikaans and Xhosa speaking person to help the narrator with pronunciations of the ingenious languages, overall the narrator was very good

Another thrilling read
I was on the edge of my seat for most of this book, as with all the others. I loved all the Kruger scenes the how he brought these beautiful true life locations to life in Silent predator.
Mark Davis has a great voice and is an excellent narrator, but I do wish that he could have been trained a bit in afrikaans prononciation of the names and phrases used. Still, I was spellbound.
