Critic reviews

"This book is a useful introduction for those who wish to investigate arcane elements of Jewish theology and philosophy." ( Publishers Weekly)
“Zetter, a longtime journalist on Jewish and Israeli topics, has done an admirable job making Kabbalah accessible, with clear descriptions of the history of Kabbalah, its theology, and of the mystical Tree of Life at its center.” ( Library Journal)
“Zetter has written a masterful account of the influence of Kabbalah on mankind over the ages and a respectful look at this part of Jewish culture and thought. Theodore Bikel, one of our most respected and beloved actors, gives this material the reverence it deserves by transcending awareness of himself and inhabiting the essence of the author's message.” ( Kirkus Reviews)

very interesting and fun

A Good introduction to Kabbalah, but the audiobook does not cover the Sixth Chapter which is largely putting it into practice. The split up of chapters is also, at times, concerning, but overall, the audiobook does do the hardback book justice. A great introduction to a hithertoo secretive subject.

A good introduction

Amazing intro into the ancient wisdom as of Kabbalah . Heavy in history... although this is quite informative so no major complaints on that note . Very General so good if you want to just understand a bit about what Kabbalah is and why it is valuable to study.

Great Intro

Any additional comments?

With a precise language, the author discusses SHORTLY about the principles of Kabbalah. A very nice mnemonic on all the lexicon of the basic words and characters of the history of Kabbalah. Indicated for beginners and early stdents, but for those who already studied for years... It is still a very good memory strenghtner.
The narrator pronounces the hebrew words correctly, with an acceptable and pleasant accent. Five stars, indeed, for fulfilling its task.

Small, Simple, Great!!!

This book was very enlightening and confirmed a lot of thoughts and ways of thinking that I have fell into naturally over the years. As if my subconscious was leading me in the right way the entire time. When I have gone against this way of thinking, not realizing that I was, it brought drama into my life. This is the path. This is the way. Simple, kindness, compassion, truth.

Great book. Great reader...

Simple Kabbalah

Having come to this book with nothing more than curiosity of Kabbalah, reading this offered background, historical context, and a simple introduction to basic foundational concepts of Kabbalah. Like learning how to tread water before starting an intensive swimming class. Of course the Hebrew words, letters and pronunciations were all "Greek to me", and actual reading will be necessary to learn the words and complete this introduction.

The narrator was clear and pleasant to the ear. Overall, time well spent.

Nicely done

Theodore Bikel's voice was constantly dropping. It made it very difficult to listen in a car or through any type of speaker system. Had to use ear buds. I'm sure I lost a lot of the book due to this.

Interesting beginners listen

This book is excellent for someone who is really interested in the kabbalah. I originally had this book on cassette tapes, and I still have them however. When I have the opportunity to have this title for my kindle it's a must.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It's not about a laugh or a cry, it's about the kabbalah it is filled with good information and is well written.

I’m a beginner and this had some great foundation level stuff for me. I enjoyed some of the history and especially some of the biblical connections and other ideas.
