About this listen
WHOEVER SAYS CRIME DOESN’T PAY ISN’T DOING IT RIGHT.
Billy Cunningham is the most wanted cheat in Las Vegas. His scams have cost the casinos so
much money that the governor has ordered the gaming board to bring him in at any cost.
Normally, Billy would lay low until the dust settles. But during a trip to Reno, he has a chance
encounter with Special Agent Ray Lopez of the FBI. Billy helps Lopez catch a pair of serial killers
called The Glitter Twins and a bond is formed.
Lopez is a hero with a fatal flaw. He’s a gambling addict with huge debts. Seeing an opportunity,
Billy recruits Lopez to help him scam a casino in Las Vegas for millions. The scam is called the bomb,
and is the most audacious blackjack scam ever invented. It’s Billy’s way to give the gaming board
a black eye before he heads south to Mexico.
But like the best laid plans of mice and men, the scam goes horribly wrong, and Billy and Lopez
are forced to make life or death choices that will forever change both their lives.
“No one in the world does this stuff better than Jim Swain.” –Lee Child
“James Swain is the real deal. His books about Las Vegas never fail to
entertain and surprise. Sin City is a non-stop adrenalin rush. Read it.”
Michael Connelly

DEADLY PLEASURES MAGAZINE Review by George Easter I’ve been a big fan of this series since its inception with GRIFT SENSE. Swain has a natural gift for storytelling. The various scams are fascinating in their ingenuity and for the clever detection that thwarts them. And Tony Valentine and his crew are among my favorite characters in crime fiction. It’s a shame that this and JACKPOT are only available on the Kindle (or on an IPad with a free Kindle app – which is how I read them). He’s also published two other e-book originals – one a Jack Carpenter novel and the other a stand-...

The New York Times Review of Books Have you heard the one about the canny granny who won a pot of money by card-counting on her rosary beads? How about the mother-and-son team whose method of palming cards at the blackjack table was ''pure poetry''? And what about the sweet techniques of guys like Jake the Snake and Larry the Lightbulb? James Swain, who came to his expertise on gambling hustles by way of his skills as a sleight-of-hand magician, uses the crooked play of these inspired cheats to pull us into GRIFT SENSE, a flashy, funny novel about a cool scam to break the bank at a Las ...

Showrunner Ethan Harris had a hit with The Murder Show, a television crime drama that features a private detective who solves cases the police can’t. But after his pitch for the fourth season is rejected by the network, he returns home to Minnesota looking for inspiration. His timing is fortunate—his former classmate Ro Greeman is now a local police officer, and she's uncovered new information about the devastating hit and run that killed their mutual friend Ricky the summer after high school. She asks Ethan to help her investigate.
