About this listen

From the author of Queen's Gambit, a gripping historical novel about two sisters who tread as dangerously close to the crown as their tragic sister, Lady Jane Grey, executed after just nine days on the throne.

Early in Mary Tudor's turbulent reign, Lady Catherine and Lady Mary Grey are reeling after the brutal execution of their elder seventeen-year-old sister, Lady Jane Grey, and the succession is by no means stable. In Sisters of Treason, Elizabeth Freemantle brings these young women to life in a spellbinding Tudor tale of love and politics.

Neither sister is well suited to a dangerous life at court. Flirtatious Lady Catherine, thought to be the true heir, cannot control her compulsion to love and be loved. Her sister, clever Lady Mary, has a crooked spine and a tiny stature in an age when physical perfection equates to goodness - and both girls have inherited the Tudor blood that is more curse than blessing. For either girl to marry without royal permission would be a potentially fatal political act. It is the royal portrait painter, Levina Teerlinc, who helps the girls survive these troubled times. She becomes their mentor and confidante, but when the Queen's sister, the hot-headed Elizabeth, inherits the crown, life at court becomes increasingly treacherous for the surviving Grey sisters. Ultimately each young woman must decide how far she will go to defy her Queen, risk her life, and find the safety and love she longs for.

The writer was able to personalize the events of so long ago into a great story. Although the outcomes are known it kept me engaged until the end. I will read more of her books.

Good writing and story

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although it saddened me to know of the Grey family's plight. I only knew if Lady Jane Grey and her ambitious father. Thank you for providing such an unusual look at the lives of Her family.

Intriguing and spell binding

I devoured this in a very short time but didn't emerge totally unscathed. The author is limited by historical events which results in a portrayal of calamity upon catastrophe - don't listen last thing at night if you want pleasant dreams!

Really good, but....

I am a big fan of historical dramas both fiction and non-fiction. Elizabeth Fremantle is the queen of writing in magnificent detail that uses facts and imagination. This book left me thinking about it for days. Always a good sign. The narrators were the best of the best. They brought the characters alive. Thank you Elizabeth for your talent that keeps me curious and excited.

I couldn't finish it. I usually finish novels. It really drags on and on.

Boring

I listen as I fall asleep at night. Love the audio versions

If you could take any character from Sisters of Treason out to dinner, who would it be and why?

great narration was wonderful! brought the characters to life. more fiction than history due to limited documentation on the lives of women in the 16th century. but goes along with others I have ready. very believable.

intriguing, suspenseful, great read (listen!)

Turns out that i am not that big of fan for the court life style.

I love historical fiction, but sometimes I'm nervous that they might be dry and boring. Not the case with this book. The first half entertained me and transported me to Tudor England completely. I expected the story to drop off in the second half, but it did not. In fact, it became more and more romantic and captivating.

I've already bought Fremantle's other book, and I can't wait to start it! Highly recommend.

Thoroughly Enjoyed!
