Another emotional journey

I’ve read several of Susan Forwards books and found that I’m not alone in childhood neglect, mental abuse or sexual abuse where it caused me subconsciously to feel I needed to be better…that I was “the bad child” in the family. In listening to this book, I learned that every step I have taken to let go of the past so I could stop this cycle of dysfunction, I made a lot of really good decisions in accomplishing this. Sure I made plenty of mistakes…like confronting those who hurt me when I wasn’t ready for their wrath…but I didn’t give up. Susan’s acknowledgement of being persistent in not giving up because it will always continue if you do give up…gave me a sense that….all of the very dark moments were worth it. Today I control communication with family and even friends because I don’t want to have the past blow ups with me saying things that made me feel like a fool afterwards. I have a much smaller, closer group of friends…and I can finally say I’m at peace with my life but especially with myself.

This short bill has opened many new doors for me

In just 47 mins Susan got me thinking. Her examples of unhealthy behaviours helped me to relate to some of the unhealthy patterns I am part of and opened many doors for self improvement. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for understanding emotional health.

Concise and to the point

Would you listen to Six Promises for Emotional Well-Being again? Why?

Yes. Good points. Concise and to the point. Helpful and powerful ways to stop negative self talk and standing up to guilt and self neglect.

not what I expected

She blames every possible problem on your parents and I personally had wonderful parents and do not put any blame of my emotional or personal issues on my upbringing. The description of the book was misleading and this was not helpful to me at all.
