About this listen

What should you do if the world has turned against you? When Father Anselm is asked this question by an old man at Larkwood Priory, his response is to have greater resonance than he could ever have imagined. For that evening the old man returns, demanding the protection of the church. His name is Eduard Schwermann and he is wanted by the police as a suspected war criminal.©2003 William Brodrick Crime Fiction Genre Fiction Historical Fiction Literary Fiction Mystery Suspense Thriller & Suspense

Critic reviews

"A complexity worthy of le Carre at his best, ingeniously worked out, and surprising....Utterly convincing....a work of art." (The Scotsman)
"Impossible to put aside, this is a wonderful thriller." (Telegraph)
"Brodrick writes well about age and memory, buried pasts and the consequences of opening them up." (Guardian)

I love William Brodricks writing (and as pen name John Fairfax) so I was so excited to start this series having listened to all the Benson /de Vere series ....BUT- The narration of this book, and I see regrettably ALL the Brother Anselm series - is just unbearable. I have really tried, and will try a little longer - but it is SO bad, overacted, dated, and I think may prove impossible to listen to. Please Audible! It is worth getting another reader for this - maybe Daniel Weyman?!

May have to return this...
