About this listen

With the growing trend of working from home, also known as telecommuting, there is an increased need to be able to communicate with your coworkers and perform the same tasks from home as you would from the office such as discussing current projects and gathering ideas from your team members.

We have been so used to using email as our online communication method that we haven’t realized how cumbersome email can be, especially when you are emailing back and forth with multiple people at the same time. You might have noticed that this can bet a little messy and important information can get lost during the process.

Slack is an online service that can be used to replace this email process with an instant message type platform that uses what they call workspaces and channels to help organize your information and allow your team members to communicate with only the people that are working on a specific project which allows you to avoid unnecessary communication and can get down to business.

The goal of this book is to get you up and running with Slack and cover all the things you need to know to get you started messaging with your peers and organizing your projects. It sticks with the basics yet covers a wide variety of topics to help you accomplish your goals without needing to be a computer guru.

The chapters in the book cover the following topics:

Chapter 1 – What is Slack?
Chapter 2 – Creating an Account and Signing In
Chapter 3 – Workspaces and Channels
Chapter 4 – Messaging & Communication
Chapter 5 – Editing Your Account and Profile
Chapter 6 – Preferences
Chapter 7 – Additional Features
