About this listen

Things are more complicated than they seam as the suspense builds in this wry and enjoyable police procedural. When Santa Fe police chief Kevin Kerney finds the dead body of hotel magnate Clifford Spalding at a mountain ranch, he has a pretty good idea about who to talk to; the list of suspects isn't long. Spalding had a devious wife who was cheating on him with a known thug, and an embittered ex-wife with mental problems. But when the pieces of the puzzle fall into place a little too easily, Kearney's suspicions are aroused.

Nationally best-selling author Michael McGarrity's Slow Kill is a stunning addition to an Anthony Award-nominated series the New York Times hails as "robust".

George Guidall is such a wonderful narrator, plus he seems to capture the essence of the person is in the book.

A very fine listening experience

Very complex story which surprised me. The ending came and went before I woke up. George makes the story seem alive and I like that.

As always, love the narrator. George Guidall transitions between characters but the voices are not overly done. Another engaging story that holds your interest to the end. Loved it! Thank you 😊

Kevin Kerney is an intriguing character. McGarrity is masterfully entertaining but I love George Guidall's performances.

wonderful

Though the characters are as rich as any of Mcgarrity's novels this story narrative was difficult to follow and had a lot of details and names going back and forth was not fun.

If you could sum up Slow Kill in three words, what would they be?

Excellent plot that really details how official police work takes place and integrating the usually interesting characters that McGarrity describes.

What other book might you compare Slow Kill to and why?

I compare all of McGarrity's books about Kevin Kearney and his family. I also compare Ace Atkins Ranger series.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

Well, I can't say enough about Guidall's performance and his ability to get me into the story and love the characters. I listened to him in the Longmire series and he is at his best in stories about the west.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'm always fascinate with McGarrity's awesome descriptions of the New Mexico landscape which is obviously a beloved locale. But, then he takes us elsewhere with equally descriptive settings that I can easily visualize.

Any additional comments?

I hope I get to find out more about some of the characters that he introduces, but I am almost finished with the series. I will miss Kevin Kearney and all his funny, interesting, quirky, police buddies. However, I am hoping to get to know his son Patrick as he grows up and more than likely enters law enforcement.

Great plot as usual

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

McGarrity is as good as John Sanford and Tony Hillerman and better than Craig Johnson.

As good as anything by John Sanford

Story is slow and tedious, but the reader, George Guidal, saves the book. on to the next book
