About this listen

She’s made the biggest mistake of her life…

Tess McBride manages to snag a mid-year teaching job on Mackinac Island, Michigan. However, her timing is a little off, it's the dead of winter and she's never been in temperatures below fifty degrees. Just her luck, her landlord, Lukas, is as hot as the sun. A Michigan blizzard leaves them trapped in the same house together and things heat up, fast. Tess finds herself falling for Lukas, in spite of the secrets that could ruin everything before it even begins.

…and it’s about to ruin everything

Lukas Baird likes his quiet life hiding out on a frozen island making fudge. His past haunts him, but as long as he doesn’t have to talk to that many people he’s fine. But when Tess shows up, she stirs up feelings that he’d long since buried and for the first time in years, he lets his guard down. But when she reveals her secret, all he wants to do is run.

Easy and quick read

Based off of some of the reviews on this book I went in with an open mind. Understanding that it’s a fictional story and therefore, anything is possible. It’s was a sweet story and I found myself holding out hope for the couple. I would agree with some of the reviews though because there seemed to be so much build up only for it to end so abruptly. I am hoping it is because the following books will build on this one. I am willing to give the rest a chance because it was a sweet little romance.

Needs a TW... also, just terrible

Firstly, it needs a trigger warning for those of us that have ACTUALLY had a child die. Besides that, the story and characters were unlikable and unrealistic, the story had me groaning in a bad way every 5 minutes. Somehow I stuck it out even after wanting to shut it off after the child loss parts, but it did not get better. How many different traumas can we try to fit in one book and not actually deal with and react to realistically - coming from someone who has been through a LOT of trauma. Narrator has a good narrating voice so I am sure she did the best she could with this terribly written disaster.

Overall, not a very well written feel good romance as it appeared like.

Lacking character development

The story is fine, it just feels kind of rushed and lacking. I think if they took the time to build out the characters more it would be a lot better.
