Good book to get a plan together

Social Media Presence

I just finished listening to "Social Media Mastery for Realtors. This is an excellent book for realtors. It shows you how to gain an online presence, engage with our clients, and grow your business. I am a realtor and will use this book as a reference. I had not put much thought into social media. This is an excellent book with some fantastic ideas. My favorite two areas were engagement strategies and performance analysis. I highly recommend this book and that you keep it close by so you can refer to it often.

Not Much To It; Little Information

This very short audiobook, just over an hour and a half, comes with a short PDF you can download from Audible, a list of “actionable” tips and reflective questions about the strategies mentioned. I put “actionable” in quotes because these tips, as stated, mostly don't give you enough to act on, like “Focus on platforms that best suit your audience.” The PDF would have been more helpful if the author had included each strategy's ending summary, too.

When I read a book title that includes the term "mastery," I expect a lot from the book. Unfortunately, this one failed to deliver. In no way will the basic information included in this book make you a master of social media as a realtor. Even though it has ten supposed strategies, they are so broad that they would not be particularly helpful. If you have any knowledge about using social media and how it can help your real estate business, you don't need this book as it tells you so little. You could actually just about guess most of the supposed strategies. I don't think I would go so far as to even call them “strategies,” honestly. Is something as simple as “Set up your user analytics software” a strategy or truly helpful in any way, if that software or even what you should look at is not discussed?

The author also threw around a lot of marketing jargon and acronyms. My experience as a bookkeeper helping other business owners has shown me they are not terribly savvy about what this author would probably consider to be marketing or social media basics. Entrepreneurs tend to know their business niche and learn to market along the way. Frankly, you could gain a lot more knowledge about how to use social media better for your realty firm by reading social media blogs or participating in real estate agent groups on Facebook. (Yes, even though I am a bookkeeper, I’m always looking for books to help my clients. I had hoped this would be one I could recommend.) I was stunned at the actual lack of information in this book.

It also had a rather annoying musical element. Every time after the narrator asked a reflective question, a few tones of a descending scale and chords played, the same short jingle after every reflective question set. As there wasn't much actual information in this book, this little tune felt like it played every 15 to 30 seconds or so. I grew tired of listening to it. It also follows a minor scale, which doesn't seem wholly appropriate for a book trying to get you energized about building a robust social media presence for your firm.
