About this listen

"The Irish R.M." refers to a series of books by the Anglo-Irish novelists Somerville and Ross. They are set in the turn-of-the-20th-century west of Ireland. The humor in the audiobook is greatly enhanced if the listener has a broad understanding of the history of Ireland's relationship with England, and how Ireland was governed, as well as the Irish country way of life. The show is, however, not political, although caricatures of Irish and British people are used for humorous purposes.©2017 Audioliterature (P)2017 Audioliterature European Genre Fiction Literary Fiction Literature & Fiction Social Sciences World Literature Witty

The narrator was just right, he did not overdo it. The stories speak for themselves.

If you like books such as the James Herriot series, books about horses or foxhunting, and dry wit, you will enjoy this.

Entertaining book of old country life.

If you could sum up Some Experiences of an Irish R. M. in three words, what would they be?

A wonderful book that is brought to life by the narrator. He doesn't really do different voices, which is why I took one star away, but he still makes the stories come to life. I could imagine that I was really sitting and listening to Major Yeates tell me this reminiscences, and the stories are often hilarious and sometimes touching.

Hilariously Perfect

This is a total delight. I recommend watching the video series also, on Amazon prime, as that gives additional color and dimensions to the story. This is such fun and it is beautifully read. The reader's voice brings each character to life and never gets in the way. Sometimes the Irish accent is a bit too thick to clearly understand, but that is ok as it is never a character essential to the storyline.

I agree that this is a great book, but did the other reviewers actually listen to this particular audio file? This audio recording is terrible-- I found it very difficult to understand what was being said through the tin can echo of the recording.

Poor audio quality
