About this listen

Sophie is small but very determined. She loves animals and is going to be a lady farmer when she grows up. On her fifth birthday, she gets a model farm and lots of toy animals. What she wants most of all, though, is a real animal – like a cat. Sophie puts her strong will to good use in convincing her parents to let her keep Tom, a stray black cat who flits in and out of her life.©1991 Bernard Cribbins (P)2014 Bolinda Publishing Animal Fiction Animals Fiction

A real firecracker child!

What does Bernard Cribbins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This narrator feels like the author is reading the story. The emotion and nuances are so fine tuned it is as though the narrator was telling the story from the heart.

I love Sophie! She is so cute and says things just as she sees it, straight to the point.

I suggest these books in order:
:Sophie's Snail
Sophie's Tom
Sophie Hits Six
Sophie Is Seven
Sophie's Lucky

Listening out of order will have you saying to yourself 'but I already know that.' It would be awesome if Audible put a series link on these books.

You might want to listen where you can snort out loud because there are some child quips that a real doozies. Of course, listening on the bus or train may empty the seats next to you! Enjoy the giggles!

This is a delighful story..

What a treasure Trove of listening delights in the entire series of Sophie Stories by the incomparable Dick King Smith, writer of children’s stories.
Each story when read brings you to such a wonderful Happy feel good conclusion of this special little girl Sophie, (She can sure wangle her daddy into letting her have a lot of animals)who is so determined, with hair that looks like she has been through a hedge row backwards. and her entire family including her beloved Octogenarian Aunt Al who lives in the Highlands of Scotland on a most desired farm!(with PONIES of course.)
You and your kiddiewinkies are in for a real treat when you listen to the wonderful heart warming stories, read by Bernard Cribbens who has that special voice that puts us all at ease. Sophie's Tom awaits you with a special surprise ending.
Just curl up with the children and listen with them, you won’t want to miss a single word.
