Alyssa Milano
About this listen
Alyssa Milano’s sharply observed, uproarious, and deeply intimate ode to the life she has lived and the issues that matter most.
Alyssa Milano, actress and activist, delivers here a collection of powerful personal essays that get to the heart of her life, career, and all-out humanitarianism. These essays are unvarnished and elegant, funny and heartbreaking, and utterly real. A timely book that shows in almost real time the importance of taking care of others, it also gives a gut-punch-level wake-up call in an era where the noise is a distraction from what really needs to happen, if we want to live in a better world.
These are stories of growing up in celebrity, of family and of friends, of connections and breaking apart. They have teeth and come from the heart. And they are stories that offer a direct line into the thoughts and life of one of the most visible, hardworking humanitarians we have. A best-selling children's book author, Alyssa's finally giving her fans worldwide what they really want to hear directly from her about: the life she has lived, the things she's seen and experienced, and the way she lives in and with the world.

Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. Story
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Story
Affluence, autonomy, safety, and power. These are the central values of the American dream. But are they actually compatible with Jesus' command to love our neighbor as ourselves? In essays grouped around these four values, D. L. Mayfield asks us to pay attention to the ways they shape our own choices, and the ways those choices affect our neighbors. Where did these values come from? How have they failed those on the edges of our society? And how can we disentangle ourselves from our culture's headlong pursuit of these values and live faithful lives of service to God and our neighbors?

Famously "nice", she even gave a TED Talk about what she termed emotional correctness. But these days, even Kohn has found herself wanting to breathe fire at her enemies. It was time, she decided, to look into the ugliness erupting all around us.

Brutally honest!
Liked this book. Not hard to keep your attention. I am a man and almost believe she hates me without knowing me. She wants America to get better as I do so I am glad she wrote it and I hope some people gain something from this as I did!

Wow! Wow! Wow!
Every one but especially every woman should read this book. Also, even if it’s just parts and pieces, make your republican “philosophical rivals” or those who are unsure about which way they lean but truly care about our country, read or listen to this book. True eye-opener and solidifier of the truth of what our country was, is and can be. There is still hope. There will always be hope as long as some of us still think like Alyssa. Let us not give up hope. Let us not give up on our country.

A must for all to hear
A must read for everyone. This isn't a tell all book about her life in Hollywood. This is a book about her actions in the political world. And with dinner things I agree with and some I disagree with, I agree with one major point she brings to the table. If we stop, listen, think, and look at the other person perspective then we can learn much about our actions and how it affects one view.

Very honest and open book
I really enjoyed this book. I love her honesty and openness on topics. Her book does touch on politics, racism, and humanity, but that’s to be expected because she is an activist. She’s never hidden that. She discusses her feelings about things and shares her side of stories that have been blown out of proportion with media. Narration is amazing as well. It gives more feeling to the stories.

Fantastic!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This was exactly what I needed. I felt like I was talking during multiple essays and yet, when our paths did not overlap, I could listen and understand. Thank you! I have been a fan for years and without knowing it, a supporter of the same causes. Now, I want to be an ally or an activist depending on the cause and not just a silent supporter.
Beautiful prose and beautiful poetry. Stay active and stay love. Love is your noun and your verb. Stay love!

This is a pretty good book. I loved listening to it. Personally, I agree with many of the things Alyssa noted in this book. I did not know before listening to it that she would speak out in it as she did. That was wonderful! I LOVE that she talked to some of her fans in it. What she said is exactly why I call many by their first names or try to. Actors are not the roles they play but people. If you look closely, you will see the political side of many shows. They are not as blunt at all but DO touch the public in ways that are not as obvious. That makes a difference, even if it is realized years later. It changes history! Personally, I have always loved that and have been a fan mainly due to that. I think it's very interesting that she noted my *th great grandfather so much. Lincoln was a Republican which to me says alot. Republican or not I absolutely agree with many of his words and am absolutely proud that he is one of my ancestors. I myself am more on the Democratic side but I agree with some Republicans to a point. Those who note Lincoln's words must feel that way as well or I think that they may. I may be wrong there..who's ALWAYS right!? I'm not, that's for sure! I'd be the first to admit that one. I AM sure that I am not nor will I ever be a trump supporter though. I mainly agree with what is right, treating people with respect, kindness and caring. Most of what was noted in this book. That is a very hard road which was also noted in this book! It was also a road that many of my ancestors took with pride. If you take that road too, in my eyes you just may be as strong as they were. I wish Alyssa and her family the best and wish I could give them all hugs. I know that being a survivor comes with great pain but also creates great strength. That is why I personally believe some may say sorry but have strength not to be sorry. ;) I hope you have that strength forever because the world needs it.

Very thought provoking
I enjoyed this book more than the three stars I gave it but only because what I thought I was going to be listening to was much fluffier than what I did. I never knew the passion and activism that Ms Milano espoused here. And that made this an enjoyable book to me. However, I was expecting some light listening, and the headiness of this audible lost it one star for me.
