About this listen

An exploration of animal spirituality and the ability of animals to communicate with humans even in the afterlife.

Looking for companionship after a near-fatal car crash, Elena Mannes, an award-winning television journalist and producer, decided to get her first dog. But what she found with her dog, Brio, shook the foundations of her physical and spiritual worlds, sending her on a quest to discover the nature of his spiritual origins and to contemplate and seek out the possibility of interspecies communication - even after death.

Soon after bringing her puppy home, Mannes realized the master-companion relationship would not be possible with Brio, who quickly showed he had a mind - and a spirit - of his own. Mannes' growing curiosity about the intelligence, emotions, and consciousness of Brio and other dogs led her to contact an animal psychic in California who described, with amazing accuracy, Brio's favorite walks and the author's apartment from the dog's point of view. Mannes' skeptical journalist background compelled her to investigate further. She delved into the world of animal communicators, psychics, and scientists studying animal intelligence, including Rupert Sheldrake, to find answers to her multiplying questions: Do animals have thoughts and feelings? Consciousness? Souls? Is interspecies communication possible? Can animals reincarnate?

Spanning the entire life and afterlife of Brio, including his last days and his messages to the author after he passed on, this audiobook also explores Mannes' investigations into the spiritual life of animals, offering a new understanding of the unbreakable bond between humans and animals. Mannes invites listeners to move beyond the owner-pet relationship and shows us how to see animals as thinking, feeling, spiritual beings whose connections with us extend far beyond life and death.

There is a lot of repetition in this book especially in the beginning. I had to cut short the two intros. The narration was awful and I already knew what the jost of the book was about. As I hoped, the narration got better as it went.

The love story between Elena and Brio was/is awesome and validates much of what I had experienced with my soul dog. I got another chance many years after my Hopi transitioned to have a short lived, year and a half love, with an old Rottie during the last year and a half of his life. Although I've had many animals whom I've loved dearly, these two are the most poignant. They do visit afterward. You just need to be open. Enjoy!

Well written, thought provoking. Loved this book. Made me think about animal communication in a whole new way. As well I felt validated about the bonds between human and animal.

This book has given me so much insight into my connection with my own dog (and past fur babies). It’s how I innately felt as a child as well but was told wasn’t true. Thank you for writing this. I will share it and treasure it forever

Love every aspect of this book

Loving and losing your soul dog is an individual journey that one may not know they have traveled. This book tuned me into how incredible my Khya was and still is to my spiritual growth. Thank you for a FABULOUS book.

Soothing, uplifting, and insightful

The title caught my eye. The body of the book, made me smile, giggle, and cry. If you have ever had a soul dog, then you'll understand why the author searched for answers on connection during the life of and after the life of her soul dog, Brio. Shea is my Brio. ❤️

A lesson for the true pet lover "from A to Z, " in the author's progression through actual shared life experiences - and a heartwarming story to boot! This is a truly simplified guide to how to keep your precious relationship with your departed "soul dog" alive until that day when you meet again at "the rainbow bridge".

Superb!
