Katz Does it AGAIN!!!!

What did you love best about Soul of a Dog?

The fact that he entertains the thought that animals have souls, when most don't.

What did you like best about this story?

It's very hard not to like Katz's stories! They are about animals, real, funny and you just want more and more!

What does Tom Stechschulte bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The feeling the author is intonating in his writing. It is sometimes hard to remember that it is not the author himself reading you the book or telling you the stories.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The title does just fine!

Excellent writer

I loved his stories of his experiences with his wonderful dogs on his farm. The author is great at taking you on their many experiences together. He ponders throughout if they have souls and guides the reader to believe they must. The reader is perfect for this book. I believe my Precious dog Godiva has a soul and is waiting for me. This book is not about the afterlife . It is about how wonderful his life is while living and how his dogs enrich his life. I know how my dog was my best friend and made my life happy everyday by loving me back.

A dog's soul from both sides

What made the experience of listening to Soul of a Dog the most enjoyable?

This story gives you information researched by both persectives of wheather dog's have soul's or not. Why they might and will we see them in the after life ? There are people that believe one side or the other. Hear reasons for why a dog would have a soul and the benefits of having a dog.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Great story

Any additional comments?

Was good enough that I wanted to read other books by this author.

Dogs Do Have Souls

I enjoyed this book, as I liked the stories of the animals and farm life. The animals have their own personalities, such as the donkey who liked Paul Newman popcorn, including the bag! I also liked reading how the animals used devious measures to obtain more food. The stories were both heartwarming and humorous. I listened to this through Audible; the narration was good, but I wish that the chapters corresponded to the tracks.

The author asks the question throughout: do dogs have souls? To me, that isn't even a question. I answer that with a resounding "YES" and the proof I have is just looking into a dog's eyes. It bothers me that humans are such an arrogant species that we believe that we are the only ones capable of having a soul. I generally am not interested in the religious themes, but in this case, there was a chapter where the author discusses the issue about animals and souls with a religious friend. The friend was insistent that dogs cannot go to heaven and do not have souls because they don't accept Jesus. That view of things, while I respect the right of others to have that view, disturbs me, as it is so exclusive; there are many creeds that exist that believe otherwise, and who is one person to tell another that their beliefs are wrong. I like that the author does not jump into this theory and notes that he has been influenced by a mixture of religious philosophies.

I particularly liked the discussion about animals as social support. I also love this quote that was near the end of the book, as I think it sums up our relationship with our dogs nicely (I am paraphrasing, as I don't have the exact quote): "Dogs let humans live their lives, and do not tell them HOW to live their lives.

It touched my soul...

This was the first Katz novel I have read and I loved it. I have since listened to it a few more times. It is an easy, comforting, escape from life to the farm with all its crazy residents. It is amazing what animals can teach us and Katz shares his experiences learning from all of them. I too, believe that animals have a soul and the gifts that they give us should be treasured. This is a delightful book and I have since purchased his others. Good narration as well.

Nice out look on the lives of the furry friends

Great story from a great story teller - thank you for the insight into your theological thought process - but all dogs go to heaven
