A fun "niche market' listen
A caveat MUST be stated before anyone purchases this production: You need to be very familiar with the original Battlestar Galactica, it's episodes & characters. If you're one of those, you'll LOVE this!
The story is a pretty simplistic one: The leader of Fleet Security is in contact with an unknown entity and they are using ship to ship communications to spread lies & disinformation to overthrow the military & instigate a coup in the fleet.
The real treat of this recording & those in the rest of the series is hearing the original actors from the 1978 show in updated versions of their characters. You know exactly that it's Bojay, Sheba, Casseopia, Col. Tigh, etc. The drawback, if I understand correctly, is they can't address them by said character names due to copyrights & licenses. So you need to know the voices of the actors to know which character is speaking. Thus, the caveat at the beginning of the review.
I thought there could be a little more gusto to the performances, because they certainly had more depth in the TV series; but after all these years, to get something like this from a dearly loved show that ended way too soon is simply amazing. We have a couple of old recordings inserted from Lorne Green & Richard Hatch. Sadly Richard was to be a part of the project; and was instrumental in getting all the actors on board; but died before it materialized. So the lack of his voice as a major character in the production is a glaring void, as is the absence of Dirk Benedict. The PDF material provided upon purchase explains how this series came to be and is very interesting.
Anyone not familiar with the original Battlestar Galactica will find this, "meh"; but those of us long time fans that wanted more of this world...(not the reimagined version)......what a gem!
